Wrecked my car

Posted by Racer on August 22, 1999, at 18:03:01

This was the test, I guess, since I'm still way too far in the hole financially to handle fixing it. The traffic was moving at the limit, I had just started again after a red light, was almost to the speed limit (35), when the cars ahead of me in my lane only suddenly stopped. Not slowed significantly, but stopped dead. I couldn't stop in time, and slammed into the last of them, and my car was the only one damaged. It's pretty bad, too. I'm estimating about $2500, if I can get a good deal from the body shop. The fellow in the car ahead of me was wild, despite the fact that his bumper was too high, which is why my car was damaged, and the fact that the babe ahead of him was saying, "just drop it, no one is hurt, no damage to any car except hers", but he was saying that the police needed to be there. Well, in San Francisco, where this happened, the police only come if an ambulance does or if it's reported as drunk driving.

Why am I telling you this? Because my reaction to this whole thing is, "Damn, and I was going to go to the art store to buy some glass tiles to make a mosaic for my living room. This is going to cost a ton of money, too. Hm, what do I think I've got coming in in the next few weeks? Am I carrying collision insurance? Is my insurance agency open today? Where's the nearest body shop, and do they do good work?" What I wasn't thinking was, "This is a sign that I have to die, because I can't handle this."

Pretty good progress, huh?

Very cool. I have read your posts since way back and I must say the change is remarkable. I know what you mean as I have finally had some zoloft "kick in" w/ synthroid and wellb. It took 8 freakin weeks. I've never posted to you so this is a first-just had to respond plus we share a common love for the horse biz. I showed hunter/jumpers for years, but now I work and the horse thing isn't in my life at the moment. keep out of that black hole. RG

I can relate to what you are saying. The difference in the way I think when depression has full control, vs. the way I think when it is reined in, is striking.

Good luck with everything. I am glad you were not hurt.

Hunters all the way, compadre. That's the best part of TBs, they race a few years, or they don't, and then you have another 20 to show in hunters. There's nothing like hitting a bending line dead on, and just knowing in the air over the first that you've hit the mark and it's all perfect from there.

Thanks for your good words, and come back to the biz! We need all the crazy people we can get!

Seriously, I'm glad you're getting relief, too. Now that I feel better, I can't believe that I survived this past year. Yucky.

You are okay, aren't you? You just mentioned damage to the car. I'm sorry to hear about you accident and also inspired by your profound observation about wanting to live. You put the ordeal in such a broad and intelligent perspective. I hope you can get a good deal from the body shop. Keep on "babbling" to us!

> Hi Racer-

I was born and raised in the bay area. I live in the midwest now (for the last year). I miss San Francisco. When I would get down I use to go to the city (from San leandro) and eat crab at the warf then go to the park. It was good therapy. Now I guess I could go look at the arch. Anyway, glad you're ok and wish I was there with you.
