Trouble sleeping

Posted by Jim on August 15, 1999, at 1:44:14

I Have a torn rotator cuff (shoulder Injury), and I have no trouble falling asleep, but after an hour or so Im awake again. I have tried sominex with no difference noted would you recomend warm milk or something stronger? The surgery should happen in the next two weeks so I dont think dependence is much of an issue. Any advice would be apreciated, Jim

Benadryl, chlor-trimeton, periactl. Any good anti-histamine is likely to work well. I've also had some luck with a nice warm brandy, or a hot toddy, but then I almost never drink so my tolerance is really low.

Also, I've had great luck in the past with prescription drugs like xanax...

Good luck. Shoulder injuries are wretched, aren't they?

Jim, something easy, quick, and inexpensive to try would be Kava Kava. Available at most drugstores and healthfood stores, even some supermarkets. It is an herb in pill or capsule form that relaxes the muscles (maybe good for that shoulder?) and at the high end of the dose range is known for deep restfull sleep. If you want a prescrip, your doc handling the shoulder problem should be able to simply call in to your pharmacy something for deep sleep, like a benzo. Call the doc's office, you can probably avoid a visit. Kava Kava is always a natural option. Wishing you a night of zzzzzzzs. JohnL.

Thank you John L, Kava Kava, Will try it!
