Report on cyproheptadine

Posted by Racer on August 5, 1999, at 12:40:42

OK, I tried it the other night. I took it about 9:30, which was too late at night. I got out my toys, and played. It still took a while, but felt so good I didn't mind. The wait was worth it, for me, and I made noise all alone because it felt so good.

The only drawback was that I then slept soundly until 10:15 the next morning. Still, I finally felt rested, which is new and unusual for me these days.

Cyproheptadine was my choice to try because it was taken at will, not everyday. I figured it would interfere least with the ADs, and slipping in a pill is not such a sacrifice of spontaneity for me. Even if I were on a date that looked like leading somewhere, swallowing a pill just in case is no big deal. If nothing else, I do have hay fever, so it's gonna help that and my sleeping, so I'll benefit one way or the other, right?

Thanks for everyone's information, and there's something to try if anyone's interested.

Sorry, I guess that was a little cryptic, wasn't it? Earlier this month, we discussed drugs to offset the anorgasmia caused by SSRIs. Cyproheptadine is an antihistimine that has been said to work for that purpose, as well as many others (though I've not yet heard of it being used for allergies...). I tried it this week, and it worked for me just fine. Obviously, it also put me to sleep pretty well, too.

So, that's my report. Hope it helps someone else out there.

Thanks. Is it over the counter? Does it work for men?

I'm happy for you Racer! You're sounding much better lately. Just a lttle PS to the folks reading of your success: DO NOT take this if you are using an MAOI. Not good. Very hazardous combination.
