Serzone with Trazadone/not sleeping - HELP!

Posted by Carolyn on July 29, 1999, at 18:02:49

I am currently taking Serzone and have been on 200mg for about 6 weeks. Last week Doc told me to increase to 300mg. Right now I am on 250mg and will increase to 50mg more starting today. Serzone does not make sleepy in fact I seem to hover in a state between being awake and asleep therfore I don't feel rested in morning. Even taking Trazadone I don't sleep. Help? Any suggestions. Dr thinks Serzone increase will help but of course she says she cannot be sure!! Thanks for any responses!

I have been using Trazodone for a few years to fall asleep, because the effexor keeps me awake. Recently, I noticed I needed more of the trazodone and also was feeling more depressed. my doctor suggested switching to serzone. But it is definitely less sedating than trazodone. I have to take it hours before bedtime, and still have trouble falling asleep. My sleep is not continuous, as it had been before, I wake up a lot to go to the bathroom. Then, I feel most sedated when it is time to get up in the morning. On the other hand, there is an appreciable antidepressant effect. But on still another hand, at the current dose, 150 mg, I have been feeling a bit dizzy and off balance. I'll give it a few more days, and see if these side effects go away and if the sleep improves, but if not, back to the MD to try something else.

Thank-you for Yardena for responding! In a few short days since I wrote the Serxone question, I have to admit I am feeling better and am starting to sleep without Trazadone. I too in the beginning for many weeks felt light headed and very off balance - literally almost falling, but that has worked it's way out. It is interesting that you mention having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. That happens to me too - even though I drank nothing hours before going to bed. I just never attributed it to the Serxone. The wonderful thing about this AD is I have no sexual side effects!!! Thank- you again for responding!! If you would please e-mail me at Nikaroooo@aol.com. I'd love to hear how you are responding to Serzone - take care!!!
