James here....

Hemp seed oil has the higest concentration of Omega 3,6, and 9 known. No it does not get you stoned !
Flax and other oils are rather high in the kind of fats that clog your arteries, Hemp seed oil is a better choice for yiour heart. This oil is on the market at retail.

You can get omega 3 as DHA in capsules to avoid the bad taste.

The capsules contain so little omega-3's that you'd have to take about a zillion of them per day in order to get much out of it. (There is one brand that has 600mg EPA/pill (don't remember how much DHA), but that's still not much. The one study on bipolar disorder used something like 6 *g* of EPA.)

(See: Stoll AL et al. Omega 3 fatty acids in bipolar disorder: a preliminary double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Arch Gen Psychiatry 1999 May;56(5):407-12. http://www.ama-assn.org/sci-pubs/journals/archive/psyc/vol_56/no_5/yoa8185.htm.)

Cod liver oil does taste awful! Have you tried the flavored fish oils though? Orange is the most popular. That’s the flavor I use, it’s not bad at all.
By the way, flax and hemp oil may not work for depression. You see, omega 3 fatty acids have three components; DHA, EPA and ALA. Flax seed oil contains only ALA. It is the DHA and EPA however that have the antidepressant benefits. The body may be able to convert the ALA to the EPA and DHA, but I’ve read that it also may not be able, at least at times, to do this conversion.
