Wellbutrin, Serzone and Remeron are the 3 drugs that
aren't supposed to effect the serotonin receptor responsible
for orgasm. I found both Wellbutrin and Serzone to be
rather anxiety/irritability producing and to not be all
that effective for my depression. I wonder if the same
would be likely to be true of Remeron. Has anyone who
found serzone and wellbutrin ineffective, had positive
results with Remeron? I wonder what makes some people
a lot more responsive to the ssri's (as I am), and other
people respond really well to ad's like serzone and
wellbutrin. I wonder if they'll ever invent some sort
of shield you could implant over those receptors so that
sexuality wouldn't be effected with the ssri's.... I feel
frustrated that I'm one of the people who can't seem to
tolerate the drugs like wellbutrin and serzone, the two
ad's that don't effect sex. I guess my main purpose here
is 1. to simply vent 2. to ask if anyone who had negative
reactions to serzone and wellbutrin had a positive
response to remeron. I know it has quite the reputation
for weight gain, but I'm thinking I might rather be
chubby and sexually happy and satisfied than average
weight and lose that nice, lusty primal sexuality with
a real edge to it.

I've taken Wellbutrin and Remeron. Here's what happened and is happening. Not only did Wellbutrin take away my sex drive, I also had
nightmarish experiences on it. I became extremely paranoid and very suicidal. Once, I went to run an errand and could not get out of my car because I had become so frightened that a dog in the distance would attack me. I knew then that I had to discontinue that med immediately. But I know others for whom Wellbutrin has worked well. I have not taken Serzone. The good news is about Remeron. I started it a little over a week ago. I don't feel edgy. It has reduced my anxiety, and I am experiencing joy here and there. Also, my sex drive is returning after a long absence.
It's too soon to really know, but, so far, weight gain has not been a problem either. That's my experience so far. Hope it helps.Cass

I also tried welbutron and my heart was racing so much i never took it again. Hope you find something that works for you. serzon is the best so far. I've taken it for 2 years. I take 150mg am and 400mg pm. good luck.

After two weeks of Remeron I'm still having some mood swings, as I was before starting the drug. But generally I think the highs are higher and the lows are not as low. I suppose that is an improvement: One can't usually expect a personal transformation after two weeks on an AD. My sex drive is still here and does not seem to be effected. I find I am asserting more often, something I always need to work on. Kate, how are you doing? I'd be interested to know.

I'm on Remeron. A lot of pdocs. won't put Bipolars on it because it could throw them into a manic episode, but about 9 months ago I was suicidal for weeks and he was trying anything and Remeron helped. He tried to take me off of it 5 months later , and I instantly fell into a bedridden depression. Now I never miss a dose and feel normal. It does increase appetite. But I'm the one who puts the food in.

Thanks for writing--I'm glad things are improving
for you. Still no weight gain on Remeron?
I'm ok--like I said earlier, I'm taking prozac
right now, but I'm supposed to see a doctor soon
to see if it can be tweaked to take care of the
sexual side effects...We'll see.

Hi I've tried Wellbutrin sr, Celexa and now I'm on Wellbutrin in the morning and Serzon in the evening.
The only problem I have with Serzon is that I'm sleepy all day an a bit dizzy. Celexa gave me sexual problems
but this problem has not gone yet with Serzon

Hi: Just started taking remeron 1 week ago am sleeping through the night and have no sexual problems, but still have anxiety through the day how long does it take for the anxiety to lessen.

I found that Paxil did wonders for me in every aspect. It took care of my social anxiety and inabled me to be the person that was not held back by the fear of others reactions towards myself. But with my new found confidence came the possibilities of sexual incounters and the Paxil, to put it bluntly, let me down. Does any body know of a med that has the same positive effect without the negative effect.

i loved serzone. i am currently on wellbutrin. but for the social anxiety stuff, i have to add klonopin to the wellbutrin. i didn't always have to though. just recently because of very high life stress. paxil and lexapro are good for the social anxiety, but they both kill your sex drive. that was not an issue for me when i was taking serzone, nor is it an issue now on wellbutrin.
so maybe wellbutrin with a benzo as needed?? i'm not a pdoc, but that's just my story.
