Zoloft

Posted by Ron C on July 11, 1999, at 10:36:15

I have been on Zoloft for about 3 wks with no indications of any side effects. But wssentially what does Zoloft do, and how should I feel? I am still somewhat depressed because of diabetic problems.

Ron-

It may take some time for the Zo to kick in, or
you may need a higher dose, or it may not be the
Rx for you. People have such different reactions
that it is difficult to describe responses. Just
keep in close touch w/your doc. Good luck!

Sean.

I've been on Zoloft for about 3 months...
It was the godsend I was looking for.... It's not for everyone. You didn't meantion whether or not
you have tried other AD's and what they have done or not done for you. Zoloft was my 4th
AD. The others did nothing for me. Zoloft does.

I wish you well... hang in there, keep trying, and keep asking questions.

Joanne

I just started Zoloft -- today is my third day.
I dont know if it is just my imagination or what,
but there is a definite change in my body. I am
more upbeat and more energetic. The sexual
side effect (soft erection and no ejaculation) has
started too.

I am glad I found this board and hope that I cna
chat with some of you.

I have been depressed and having a general low for
about 3 years now and I am so excited about the
medication.

What is the best time to take it? I am taking it
in the evening/night but I do feel a little
more energetic for a while... so I am not sure
if I should switch to the daytime?

Also, can any males comment on the sexual
side-effect? No way around that one, is there?

Thanks!

hi. although i am not male i do have a bit of experience to share with you...(having been on paxil for 5 years). the best thang i found for dealing with the sexual side effects was ginkgo... esp. if you work it into your daily vitamen plan. however i still got it to work if i took it 2-4 hours before sex... not that we always know. hope this helps. yona

pdxguy,

soft ? that never happened & for sure not at day 3 !!!

a loss of interest ??? yes ! at the same time was nauseated, gagged, dry heaved, had PAs with radiating flushes every 5 minutes, darrhea, didn't sleep, etc.

Hard to have an interest in pleasure at the same time as above going on, but sex does take your mind off of the side effects ( or rather did for me )

anyway..... the libido came back, Orgasm was delayed a bit and only failed after a drink or 2. That was at about wk 4 or so. libido was connected with early AM visits by MR Happy.

perhaps I am in the lucky 50% or so. Even when O failure ocurred, it was not a problem to me. The remainder of the intimate contact was still very satisfying. one should not focus too much on the big O in the early startup of the med.

It often gets better !!!!

WIERD. I dont know anyone else who has had
such a quick reaction to the meds. I have
taken prozac before and it took at least a
week before I felt anything.

I dont have any other side effects, a little
like I am on caffiene, and thats about it. I
do have more energy overall but it doesnt last
all day (not like I would expect it to, either).

Hmm.

quick reaction ? no just the opposite. I did have quite a few startup side effects, that went away.

The only thing quick was nausea & no appetite. sex related effects were slower in onset & associated with a deffinite odd sensation in the pelvic region about 2 hrs after taking zoloft.

Also had something similar with prozac a few yrs ago but sensation was different. did not take the time to make notes of exactly what the feeling was, just remember odd.

It was not an alteration of sensation however.

One suggestion is to take the med in the early AM. part of the sexual suppressive effects are acute & part are chronic. The acute parts appear to be related to blood levels. so if the med is taken a longer time before the time of sexual activity, less effect.

some folks ( I have seen this reported mainly by women ) found that skipping a dose allows Orgasm. An AM dose schedule would give about 36 hrs & fairly low blood levels.

skip the dose this AM, have sex tonight, & resume med tomorrow.

Celexa does not apper to me to have as much of an effect on suppressing and/or delay of orgasm as the zoloft did.
