This Bulletin Board

Posted by Judy on June 29, 1999, at 20:17:59

Tonight I posted responses to two people and, when I reloaded, I found they weren't listed on the mail board but were viewable in the thread if I clicked into the original post.

This is totally new to me. Where have all my nice little yellow "new" flags gone? Does everyone else but me know that you have to click on your own post to receive some of your messages? Does this mean that I am not seeing all the new posts from others unless I click on every original post? That would be TOO tedious!

Would someone be kind enough to relieve me of some of my ignorance?

Thanks,

Judy

Hi Judy,

It's not just you. I couldn't find my latest post either until I clicked into the thread. I was also beginning to think it was just me, not being very computer savvy. If I find out the solution I'll post it. Until then I'll be searching away as well.

Dr. Bob started a new archive system and this seems to be a new problem. I suspect he knows about replies not showing up on the main page because when he replied to my "New Archive System" post, it appeared twice under my original post but not on the main page. I agree with you that this is tedious. Also, it used to be much easier to see which posts you'd already read and which are new.

As to the "new flags" there are probably done by
a cookie that is cashed on your PC. The cash clears from time to time so you loose the flags till you reload the page a few times.

Also after you post you will have to reload the page to see your post on the main board.

This has nothing to do with my cache or cookies. I'm using Internet Explorer 3.02 and reponses to posts are not showing up on the main page. I have to open the original message and follow the reponses at the bottom of that page. Reloading does not affect this; even if you do so, they still don't appear on the main page. Sure, you have to reload after posting a new or follow-up message yourself to see it show up on the main page, but this shouldn't be happening when you come back the next day to check for responses. I get new yellow flags, but responses still don't appear on the main page. If this still isn't clear, look under my New Archive System post and you won't see any responses. Open that post and on that page you will see that Dr. Bob replied to it twice. This is a big problem!

Oops, sorry about that! It turned out to be a bug that did in fact have to do with the change to the new archive system. Thanks for your patience.

Bob

Thanks for fixing this, Dr. Bob!

Apparently I wrote about this just as you began to fix the problem. It's 1 AM in Chicago, so why are you still up working?!
