stomach upset from med

I have trouble taking my medication, klonipin because like many tother substances it kills my stomach. I need to be taking this, and have tried all the normal things; taking it with food and even antacids, but every time it causes instant upset stomach. I'll try about anything. Any suggestions?

Brian,

This has been my major side effect problem with the majority of my medications. They upset my stomach and even sometimes make me vomit. Then a naturopath told me about Ginger root (you can get it at any health food store or even drugstore). I take 2 gingerroot with my lithium in the morning and no more stomach problems. I do not even have to take the medication with a meal. I've heard doctors recommend ginger root to pregnant women for stomach problems.

Hope it helps
Cynthia

James here....

Get the meds perscribed as liquids and if not made ask Rx to compound into liquid for you. Makes a big difference. Don't try to grind and liquidfy
yourself....it is important to have the correct base.

I'll go with Cynthia. Ginger helps my stomach, and I recommend either adding ginger root (you can get it at markets, asian food stores, gourmet food stores, etc), in salads or foods, or really good gourmet Ginger Beer or Ginger Ale. Stewart's Ginger Beer is my fix for upset stomach, but Cock'n'Bull brand is good too. It tastes funny if you're not used to it, but it gets to tasting good after a while.

(NB: Ginger Beer is non-alcoholic. It's like Root Beer, but ginger instead of sassafras root.)
