Wellbutrin jitters

Posted by Brandon on June 30, 1999, at 10:50:16

Has anyone here taken wellbutrinsr. I started it on saturday the 26th. and I can feel it working on my depression already but the side effects are almost unbearable. Mainly anxiety and bieng tense all the time. My dose right now is only 150 in the morning but after next week it goes up to 300 and I'm afraid I won't be able to take it anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brandon,

I took Wellbutrin once for about two weeks and couldn't get off it fast enough because I thought the fillings in my teeth were going to come loose if I got any more "jiggy."

I doubt if I gave the Wellbutrin enough time to work on my depression but, if you feel it's providing you with some benefit, why don'tyou check with your doctor to see if he can add something to the Wellbutrin to relieve your anxiety and tension? If you find a med that works in some respects for you, I firmly believe you should "work" with it by changing doses, adding another drug, whatever. Don't give up on it until you've explored all avenues with your doctor.

Good luck,

Judy

Brandon,

I have been on this drug (was prescribed it for use in ADHD) before and I also experienced a scary anxiety side effect that made me feel pre-seizure-like. I have had seizures before, so this really scared me and I went to the ER and consequently discontinued the drug. I am aware that Wellbutrin lowers the seizure threshold, so it probably shoudln't have been prescribed for me at all since I have the history of seizures. Good luck with this drug but you might try calling your physician and notifying him of your increased anxiety and he could try you on a drug less likely to cause these symptoms (such as Remeron, Effexor, or an SSRI).

Brandon, I also started taking Wellbutrin SR on Saturday the 26th. However, my doctor believes in starting out at low doses of meds, so I'm only taking 100 mg when I get up. Before increasing the dose, he wanted me to call him if I noticed increased anxiety. I guess I'm lucky that this hasn't happened. I have felt a little more energized, but the down side of this is that now it takes me an hour to 90 minutes to fall asleep and that frustrates me. Especially since he also has me taking 5 mg of Zyprexa at bedtime, which should more than enough to knock me out. I'd be interested to hear what your doctor recommends you do next. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I
I also started Wellbutrin 4 days ago, and have moved down from 150 sr to 100 sr because of afternoon jitters, insomnia, and tension. Now on the fourth day, I've started to have tinnitis.
does anyone know if these side effects, esp. the tinnitis will go away with time?
Linda

Brandon, I have been taking 300 mg of wellbutrin sr for 6 monts and still have jitters and insomnia. My doctor has given me ativan (anti-anxiey) to help with sleep but it is not recommended for long term. I absolutely cannot sleep without the ativan. I have also experienced some side effects with ativan (lack of sexual response and feeling "blue." I am going back to my doctor this month and will ask him what else I can do. I have started taking Valeriean root (herb) which has helped the jitters during the day but does nothing about insomnia and "busy head" at night. Good luck

I take 400 mg of Wellbutrin every day. To get to sleep, I take Trazadone. It works wonders. Very sedating. I just fall into bed. I haven't had any side effects from the Trazadone either. Hope that this helps.

Jody, Thanks for the information. I'll share it with my doctor and post results. Jane

Hi Brandon,
I have been on WB for almost two years.
I have add and i am also bipolar in a big way.
I am taking 1500 mg of neurontin and 225 a day of WB.
Get the hell off the SR formula if that is what
you take and go to the regular non sustained relief.
I tried the SR 6 months ago and it even made me edgy,
and i had been on the regular formula for almost a
year and a half. The edgyness and irritability will
recede slowly as your body adjusts to running with WB.
Try to enjoy the almost speeded up effect. Stay active
and excersize. that will help.
Give this stuff a a chance to help you.
Good luck.

When I started on Wellbutrin one year ago, I was also taking Effexor, Trazodone and Attivan. I did not experience any unusual jitters, but in Sept. I collapsed in the middle of teaching a class, babbling and unaware of my surroundings. My drs. decided I was suffering from an overdose of serotonin, so they reduced my Trazodone. I feel fine now. So you might consider asking your dr. about this.
