need Naltrexone info for my doc

Posted by Leonora on June 4, 1999, at 17:08:44

Is there anywhere on the web where I might find info for my doctor about naltrexone as an SSRI additive? I see lots of info about its use for drug addiction recovery, but nothing about its use for augmentation. Thanks, Leonora ,

Leonora,
If you go to the "tips" part of Dr. Bob's website and search under naltrexone, you will find a whole bunch of stuff about antidepressant augmentation, most notably material from Dr. Lee Dante regarding his experiences. The one extra point that's been emerging on this board lately is that some people need to start with very low doses in order to tolerate it, and then work up slowly to 25 or 50mg/day.
Best regards,
JD

Here are some links for your reference:

SSRI's and Apathy

In corresponding with Dr Dante I discovered that he had obtained a patent with the intent of establishing some credibility for the augmentation. He has been trying to initiate some interest in controlled studies that might lead to approval of Naltrexone as an augmentation. If you review the patent be sure to view all of the claims.

US Patent 5512593: Composition and method of treating depression using natoxone or naltrexone in combination with a serotonin reuptake inhibitor.
