negative reaction to Paxil?

Posted by ed on June 21, 1999, at 13:01:06

Hello

Has anyone "out there" ever heard of Paxil triggering
aggressive disinhibition in an obsessive/impulsive way in
which includes, but is not limited to sexual behaviour in
adolescents?

Thank you - I appreciate any input

Ed

I posted a silimar question a long time ago, because I suspect my sister is experiencing something like that. The Paxil worked very well for her depression, but she has subsequently left her husband, gotten involved in a messy Jerry-Springer-type affair that she can't seem to get out of even though she knows the situation is "crazy," is not very concerned about the effect of all this on her kids (very unlike her pre-Paxil). She doesn't think anything is wrong, so hasn't talked to her doc about a med change to see, so I don't really know if the Paxil has anything to do with all this.

I experienced something like this a couple of years ago, not on Paxil but on Prozac. I did crazy stuff I would never normally do and I am sure it contributed to my having an affair that eventually broke up my marriage. I was feeling "high" and very sexy all the time. I didn't even realise what made me behave that way until I'd been off Prozac for a few months. During the Prozac phase I mistook the euphoric feeling for an "in love" feeling. Now I am back to normal. Unfortunately too late for my marriage.

Paxil, and for that matter all antidepressants, can trigger manic episodes...

I'm 46 yrs old, using paxil about 2yrs because of my ache and pain from fibromyalgia.
My pain would be so severe, the doctor had put my on anti-depression . I was getting so depress due to having so much pain and my limitation on outing and activities.
I have gain 40 lbs and feel so bloated.
It's true that I lose appetite for food but when I do eat, it stays on .
So, Now that I take Paxil, I'm fat but feel good.
but also depress because I'v gain so much weight.
I starting to shop for 2x already and believe me that is depressing, my average dress size was always size 12.
Any way I am tapering myself off this paxil to try 5-htp that might take some pounds off of me and control my pain.

It has always been my understanding that most, if not all, medications catagorized as anti depressants will indeed make you gain weight. Now my sister has fibromyalgia and only takes Elavil about 9pm to help her sleep through the night. She does not take any other meds specifically for it. Maybe it's not a daily dose of anti depressant that you need. You may need to do a trial and error thing with meds. Also, my sister has not gained weight while on Elavil.

Paxil / Weight Gain

Hi,

I've been on Paxil for Depression, Anxiety, Migraine for about the same amount of time now and it work wonders, and yes I gained 20 pounds.
But for me that wasnt a bad thing. I needed it.
I was severely underweight, by at least those 20
pounds. If you can get you Fibromalgyia undercontrol maybe the antidepressant weight gain could be muscle gain instead of the other type?

Lots of love and luck...

Remember that website on CFS and Fibromylgyia, which in my mind are very similar if not the same thing right, that some one posted elsewere? It looks real good so here it is again:
