Celexa

Posted by Nancy on December 1, 1998, at 19:33:10

What antidepressants may be used in conjunction to Celexa? What adjunctive treatments have been successfully explored while using Celexa?

I've been taking Celexa, since September 16th. But, I've been on the maximum prescribed dose of 80mgs/day Celexa, since November 2nd.

I'm no longer out-of-control of my suicide impulses. Also, I'm able to exercise on my recumbent bike. But, I still have terrible cognitive impairment and memory problems. I'm not able to completely wake up. It's like living in a hazy dream. Furthermore, I'm always unbearably exhausted. So, I've begun researching treatment options that may be used with Celexa.

Mind Over Madness,
Nancy

I don't think many doctors here have been using it long enough to have tried lots of combinations, but probably most strategies with other SSRIs would be reasonable to consider with Celexa, too...

Good luck,

Celexa Question for the Docs and others

Does anyone know if Celexa is one to contribute to weight gain or weight loss?

And, how is it like/unlike the other SSRIs and Effexor?

Thank you.

I've taken Celexa, since September 16th. I've been on the maximum prescribed dosage of 80mgs/day, since November 2nd. I'm losing the weight that *magically* appeared while on Lithium and Depakote. In my experience, both Celexa and Effexor have similar weight loss effects.

On the other hand, be wary of the doses taken of mood stablizers and antipsychotics. Because, these two neuroleptics will blow me up like a balloon, when taken in high enough doses to induce sleepiness. My experience has been to creep slowly upward in dosage (much slower than prescribed). My therapeutic level has been achieved at much lower doses than generally recommended. I listen to my excellent doc AND to my body. My doc agrees with this approach.

I take 20 mg of celexa two times a day. I also 150mg SR of wellbutrin morning and evening and 75 mg of wellbutrin at lunch. I can function although my memory and cognitive processes are definetly changed. I teach so I have to pretty sharp. My impulses to do harm to myself are definetly reduced and I've only been at this dosage of celexa for three or four days. I have had side effects with each dosage change of celexa but the psychiartrist feels that celexa enhances the effects of wellbutrin. The headaches ect fade after four or five days and generslly I feel the best I have for a very long time. Hope this helps

I have been taking clexa (20mg) for about 6 months and I feel better than before but I am still having the up and down feelings. I have alot of very down days still, and several symptoms of my depression. What is the recommended dose? And is there something else that works well with the celexa?
Thank You!
Janet
