From whom can marplan be purchased? Is it being made in the United States?

I need an address, group, telephone number; any information would be greatly

appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Take a look at:

A doctor (or a prescription from one) seems to be required.

Good luck,

Bob

I took this drug years ago and was on it when Roche made a decision to discontinue it. It also did me in. Although I am on another medication I may need to get back on it at some point. We all know how antidepressants can stop working. Email me at mch1956 if you want
to discuss your expereince taking it. I'm assuming you also took it in the past?

I thought Marplan had been rereleased by Roche in August of 1998. There was an announcement on the Centerwatch website (www.centerwatch.com) stating that "Marplan had been approved for the treatment of depression" Now you and I know that Marplan is not a "new" drug but the announcement made it sound like it was new. So I'm not sure what the story is.

I had written a letter to Roche to complain about their decision. The letter I received from them led me to believe it was not going to be available beyond a month or two. I really had a terrible time trying to find another drug to work as well as Marplan had.

So now I think it's back, but I'm not certain of this. I have an 800# from Roche so perhaps you can call them directly to inquire about its availability. (1-800-526-6367). I will probably try to do this myself on Monday.

I take Nardil. Does Marplan work as well as Nardil for Social anxiety?

Hi Dwight,

Unfortunately, Marplan is probably the least researched of the available MAOIs, so there's not much out there on its use in social anxiety per se. While I've heard that some doctors think that Marplan is in general a "weaker" med than Nardil, I've also encountered people who claim that Marplan has worked better for them than either Nardil or Parnate (for depression / anxiety / social phobia). I saw one study from the late 1980s claiming that Marplan seemed to work well in cases of "heightened interpersonal sensitivity", which I take to be a feature in at least certain types of social anxiety. As an MAOI, one would expect that it would work pretty well, though it's always hard to predict individual responses!

Best,
JD

Now that Marplan is available in the US, I'm considering
trying it. Does anyone know if it can cause as much weight
gain as Nardil? Anybody gain a lot of weight on Nardil but
not on Marplan?

thanks,
anita

Since nothing seems to cause weight gain like Nardil does, Marplan would probably have to offer some advantage! Seriously though, the reports I've heard through the grapevine (not a huge number) are that it's more tolerable in
this respect for most people, but that weight gain can still be an unwanted effect.
