Looking for help and answers with Wellbutrin SR...

Posted by Lynette on August 29, 1998, at 13:17:07

I am now on Wellbutrin SR after being on Effexor. I am looking for answers and infor regarding the side effects of this medication. At the beginning of taking Wellbutrin SR and slowing getting off Effexor I felt so good and it was nice to be able to smile again.
I have major depression and has been this way for a very long time. I begin to think that nothing can help me. I'm tired of the guessing game of what to take and how much. Being on Wellbutrin SR I seem to be feeling very light headed and dizzy too. I don't know if it is the medication or something else. I have little kids that need a good mom, so I'm trying to look for answers on the medication and side effects. I need to be able to continue with my daily requirments. I seem to be more uptight and seem to be doing alot of crying, mainy today. So if anyone out there can give me more info regarding Wellbutrin SR I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you for your time.
Lynette

Just a note: stick, if you are going to go with wellbutrin, to the SR - much lesser risk of seizures... Wellbutrin may be great - but for some it causes irritation. But all the meds are good for one bad for another, and when they're good, they're bad anyway - meaning, try, and try and try. Something(s) will work - without you even overtly noticing. It'll dawn upon you....

I'm on Wellbutrin SR (300 mg a day, 150mg 2x) for ADHD and depression, and I've noticed some side effects. Appetite and sweating are the big ones. My appetite isn't really decreased, it's more like I'm less aware of it. If I don't make it a point to eat, I won't because I won't notice that I'm hungry. At the same time I find I can eat a lot more in a single sitting because I don't feel as full. The sweating I mostly have at night. It's disgusting and annoying, but a small price to pay for how much better I've been feeling and my increased productivity.

Hi, I've been on wellbutrin for 1 week now for treatment of adhd. After trying ritalin and dexadrine with minimal results I have landed upon my dream. I have not had any adverse side affects and actually welcome the fact that I do not even think of lighting up, an all too familiar stress reliever!!!! I'm am currently working at almost effortless efficiency and am the happiest I've felt in ages!!! I am abit apprehensive and haven't been able to find any answers to my inquiries.
1>I was under the assumption that it would take several weeks to produce result. Not thus far!!!
2> Will this feeling wear off!!
I am only taking 100mg in the morning and am finding the effect to last approx 12 hours.
3> Are all people that are experiencing night sweats taking doses before bedtime. as I haven't been affected at night this far...

Any information would be appreciated...Thx liza

> Lynette,
I've been on Wellbutrin SR/Desyrel/litium for almost 2 years. I've probably been depressed all my life, and hopefully, this combination will continue working as well as it is. I still have some dizziness after a total of 4+ years on Wellbutrin. I notice this most when I'm on some balcony or elevated hallway, which opens out into a wide open atrium. I just make sure I hug the wall away from the open space. I also get a little of this on escalators. I've never fallen, and it isn't that kind of dizzy, but it is a strange "head-rush" feeling. I've always needed relatively high doses of any med's we've tried to get my depression under control. I have an excellent Dr. who is willing to push dosages and combinations to get to something that works.
Since I've been on Wellbutrin, I have (voluntarily) switched jobs twice, and no one at either new job has known that I'm chronically depressed. In my current job, I'm in a high-profile position and have been traveling extensively, and I am STILL doing great.
Make sure you get enough sleep. I start to lose it if I go too long without recharging. Please don't drink alcohol, the hangover is MUCH worse than ever, and it takes way too long for the aftereffects to go away.
Be patient with your DR. You need to change slowly to avoid side effects and other bad reactions. Prozac worked for me for about 4 yrs, then faded, so I had to start over and find other things that worked. You CAN get there from here, but it won't happen overnight.
There is probably a little residual dry-mouth, but I've gotten used to it. Some of your mucous membranes (nose, throat, reproductive tract) may also become dry and need additional lubricant.

I am very interested in what meds you are taking. I have been taking Wellbutrin for 3 - 4 yrs. I have felt better tahn I did previously, but I still have no energy and really no focus on life. I am hoping there is some combination of meds that will give me back some energy. I presently take 2-75mg. 3x day (450mg. total). I would be glad to send you my email address so we can discuss this.
Thanks, Lin

> Lin,
I'll be happy to discuss this with you. For anyone else interested, I'm on 5 x 100 mg Wellbutrin SR (2@6am, 2@noon, 1@6PM), 150 mg desyrel at bedtime, and 450 mg eskalith CR at bedtime. The eskalith is the most recent addition, and was added to boost things. We started at a higher dose of desyrel, but I've cut back to feel more awake in the morning. I'm on a variety of other stuff for high blood pressure, migraine headaches, bc pills, so my Dr. has had to be very adaptable. My depression has always been drug-resistant, and this mix works for me.
I've used some cognitive therapy (4 yrs) in the past (10 yrs ago) to help focus on the important things, and I still use those skills when I find myself obsessing about what's wrong with my life.
I tried some melatonin about 2 years ago to help me sleep, and I found out it was really hanging on the next day, and I never felt like I was awake. I slept really well, though. Look at any other things you're taking--they may be dragging you down without you realizing it.
Let me know if you would like any other information
Good Luck
Carol
