Zoloft kick in?

Posted by Leonora on May 27, 1999, at 19:52:16

I'm just finishing my second week of Zoloft--25 mgs the first week and 50 mgs. this week. So far all I feel is an overwhelming desire to sleep. No energy burst and definitely none of that fog lifting seize the day kind of feeling I felt eight years ago when Prozac first kicked in for me. When should I expect some improvement in mood, and will this drowsiness go away?

Lenora,
I too started on 25mg then to 50mg, my dosage now is 200mg and that was required to lift the fog for me. I am always tired but not like I was in the first stages. It has taken months for me to feel this good and I can actually get on with my life now. A small amount of tiredness beats horrendous anxiety any day !!!! You must remember as well that any emotional stress makes the body very tired, so you have to let your body get it's strength back. Hang in there, I'm glad I did. Soon I will be able to lower my dosage to an equilibrium with my side effects. The high dosage was required as I was so anxious that it became ridiculous. I also find that what you eat can affect your emotional state.
Let me know how you are feeling
Alison

Lenora,
I have found through my own experimenting that the foods I crave are often the ones that make me feel down and tired. Those high in the simple carbohydrates, like sucrose etc. tend to give me a high but then drop me down further than I was before ! I have found that for me personally, avoiding yeasts, sugars(as these feed the yeasts), dairy products(I am mildly lactose intolerent), and any processed foods with alot of additives has been beneficial. This works wonders for me, but maybe you should try a naturopath, as this was designed for me. Worked from my symptoms, eg. anxiety, panic, severe sinusitis, and various infections. I find if I am craving sugar, which I do all the time (and I do often give in to the Zoloft munchies) then eating an apple and going for a walk is helpful.
So the best way is to keep a diary of what you have eaten and how you felt in the next few hours, minutes, or later on. This way you can tailor it to your intolerences.
I hope this helps, I found it very good.(When I don't give in to the munchies !!)
Alison
P.S. Let me know how this works for you.
