xanax and urine testing

Posted by Dona on February 18, 1999, at 20:20:32

I have been on about 1.5mg of xanax since Dec for anxiety disorder (also taking celexa for depression)
Depression is mostly gone, and I now have a new job offer. But must pass drug screen. Does anyone know how long xanax stays in urine and if I stop it for a few days, will I be okay with drug screen? THanks

James here....

A drug screen is for illicit drugs...not the prescribed. Get a note from the prescribing doc
stating that he prescribes Xanax for you.

Xanax has a very fast half-life. A couple of days should be enough.

Lisa,

Methadone w/d is much like heroin w/d, but it lasts longer. It's not dangerous, but it is yucky, as you're no doubt aware.

The real difficulty tends to be in *staying* off the drugs once you've quit. Can I ask why you want to go off it?

Anyway, don't try to quit cold-turkey, if you can help it. (I don't know how clinics work.)

Lisa,

Methadone withdrawal is a real stinker. Get your clinic to refer you to a detox facility. Kick and scream, but do it!!!

You didn't say how much Xanax, but in my experience, coming off it is harder than meth. Seizures are possible; anxiety and muscle spasms almost guaranteed.

If you must come off these things, NOW, get help. Your life is too precious not to. Otherwise, you can likely taper down.

Get to NA (or even AA) soon as you can. Good luck and easy does it.
