Celexa - To take or not to take...

Posted by Tom on May 5, 1999, at 15:34:19

I have been on my fair share of AD's and have never had much
success, coupled with my fair share of disaster stories.
WELL...here we go again. My Doctor gave me a Celexa script,
and there it sits in my medicine cabinet. Some of my horror
episodes on the meds have put the rest of my family on alert...
"Tom, your improving all the time", and they're right.
Pschyotherapy has improved my condition dramatically. Too
bad dramatically only brings me "up" to feeling bad most
of the time, instead of constant despair. Well, I've read
so much good pub on Celexa on this site I've become very intrigued.
By the way, my story is slightly complicated in that I suffer
from a Dissociative disorder also (that's improved dramatically
also), but the trade off of the issue "breakthrough" is this
damn depression. I'm going to start counting votes...

Celexa - Yes_____ NO _____

Seriously, I'm starting to really wonder if this med might
finally be the one...

Hi Tom, give Celexa a try. I've been on it for 3 weeks now and feel much better. I took prozac for about a year a few years ago, which worked for me, but I didn't like the side effects. Celexa seems to work in a more subtle way: the anxiety just leveled off within the first few days, although I still felt depressed. Gradually, however, I realized I was feeling much better and right now I can't imagine NOT taking this drug! I'm feeling much more social and assertive. Side effects for me: feeling sluggish (although better now than when I first started) and some insomnia. I'm hoping this gets better. A bonus for me is that I've lost 5 pounds without even trying! Imagine what could happen if I could get up the energy to get to the gym! Anywy, good luck.

My wife started Celexa several months ago after years of trying just about everything else. It's been a miracle except for the sexual disfunction. But, from my perspective it's worth it. Good luck to you.

My husband switched from Prozac to Celexa, he is very happy with Celexa. He had few side effects from Prozac, but still had periodic "dips" in mood, with Celexa he has felt much more positive even though he has gone through major life stress (he was fired in January, and his mother has been extremely ill for the last year).
