Meripex for depression?

Posted by Annie on January 23, 1999, at 19:33:45

Has anyone heard of the drug Meripex being used to treat depression? I know it is used for Parkinson's Disease, but I just spoke with someone who is successfully using it for depression. Her psychiatrist was told by NIMH about tests that were being done and that it looked promising. I found nothing at the NIMH site. I went to some Parkinson's forums, and in several posts discussing Meripex, they noted their improved mood. I could use a little hope right now, so I HOPE this is true.

Pramipexole or Mirapex. Explains why I had a hard time finding anything. Good thing someone in the Parkinson's forum spelled it the same.

In theory this should work as an AD probably because of D@ potentiation.

Give it a go and let us know how it works out!

You have the wrong spelling I believe and that may be why you are not finding any info. on the nimh web site, it's MIRAPEX

In the Parkinsons patients who reported improved mood, could it be determined
whether their better mood was due to some anti-depressant effect of the drug?
Or could it have been due to their feeling better from the resolution of
Parkinsonian symptoms from the drug?

My sense was that the antidepressant effect was not limited to relief from PD symptoms.
