SAMe as anti-depressant Anyone used it?

Posted by Peter on March 19, 1999, at 22:29:03

I've been hearing about S-adenosyl-methionine (see Newsweek 3/22/99). Anyone out there had experiences with it? Where to buy it cheaply? I gather it will soon be available in vitamin stores.

I tried SAMe, had no side effects but no benifits either. Could be the dose wasn't high enough, it works at doses of 500-2000 mg, I tried 500 and didn't want to continue spending money when it didn't work at that dose. I recently recieved a flyer from Olympia Nutrition (www.smartdrugs.com) they now ship it from the US, but it was actually substantially cheaper when I purchased it from International Anti-aging Systems (www.antiagingsystems.com) George

As far as a cheap source of SAMe, let me pass on to you a suggestion that I found on the web. It's from a Dr. Richard Podell, "Fortunately, there is a simple, inexpensive way to stimulate the body to make SAMe on its own: a combination of three old fashioned vitamins (folic acid, vitamin B12 and B6) together with Betaine TMG, another nutritional supplement."
Betaine TMG or just plain TMG (Trimethyglycine) can be bought at health food stores, it's very cheap.
Note, I've read that bipolars shouldn't take SAMe, it can bring on a manic phase.

It's available, here, in Las Vegas. I've used it. You'd probably be interested in checking out the URL: windsofchange.com/altern2.html

I tried one pill. Had blurred vision and sleepiness the next day.
