Just wondering what people's experiences have been with sexual side-effects with celexa (especially at higher doses and compared with Serzone).

.I have been taking Celexa with depakote since September. I started the Celexa gradually at just
10mg/day. Too keep side effects minimal. When I
got up to 40mg/day, the world changed for me. Everything has been great. No side effects for me. I continue with Celexa and have even been able to lower my depakote to 500mg/day.

I am just starting Celexa 10mg. I had have such
terrible reactions to other medications for depression that I feel that this is my last chance. I also, have a panic disorder. I have been taking Activan o.5 on and off for the last four months. But I don't see any improvement. I would appreciate hearing from someone with the same kind of problem I have.

How about weight gain and or weight loss with the Celexa and Depakote? Just started on the Celexa after 6 (count em' 6) years on paxil. Throw in a little Diazepam for the HORRIBLE paxil withdrawal.(and I take 1000 mg of the Depakote)

I've been taking Celexa since it was first released. I am unable to tolerate any of the other antidepressants at a theraputic level for a variety of unwanted side effects. I have read that 75% of people treated in Europe are on 20 mg daily. I take 20 mg at bedtime and I have not noticed any side effects. In the past, I used sex as a stress reducer for my depression. I felt like I had to have it. With Celexa I don't feel that way. I can go for days without it and not start a major argument by making it a priority. I have sex about 4x a week and I experience NO side effects. I am on a drug cocktail...I don't want to take up a whole page here, but if anyone would like to ask me any further questions, please feel free to email. I am a very open person and I don't think anything you would ask me would offend me

Don't miss the point though, any drug taken must be used in combination with soal enriching experiences. You are in command of your life while Celexa is only a tempory stepping stone to reach your wildest dreams.

> I have been taking Celexa for 8 weeks now (after trying everything else out there). I have never felt better!! My mind is clear, its almost like a veil has been lifted. I hope I continue on the up swing with this. With a clear mind it seems like I can really take control of my life.

I take it in the morning with food, the only problem I have is some anxiety and in the evening my legs feel twitchy.

Well, now, are you certain that the anxiety has nothing to do with a cycling up toward mania?
Have you ever been disturbed by mixed-states? That is, do you comorbidly experience depression and mania, ever?

I had several days of anxiety and lightheadedness during first week and at each increase in dosage. This is my first time on such medication and I am embarassed to be on it. I also am having sexual trouble. Almost immediately I could not get a erection or ejaculate. This condition has improved but is not at premedication levels. The Dr. tells me to let some more time go by and then if need be we can add medication to help mitigate the sexual side effects. I also have gained some wt and am more tired but have trouble sleeping. Dr. said that should pass too. Have any guys had their sexual activity restored to premed days?> I have been on Celexa since September 24th. I noticed almost immediate results. I'm on it for depression, anxiety, and OCD. I still feel anxious, depending on certain situations. However, the depression and OCD have been diminished greatly. I have searched high and low for side effects, drug interations, etc. The 1999 PDR does not even contain info on this drug. There is very little info provided by the pharmacist. My side effects have been severely decreased sexual libido, great tiredness, and inability to make myself exercise. I hate all of these side effects, but love the fact that my symptoms are so minimal now. My doctor and counselor keep telling me to push myself and try to at least walk or keep moving and hopefully the sleepiness will diminish.
> > < I have been on celexa for 5 weeks. I feel good, I'm on 20 mil. I've never been on antidepressants before celexa. (wait, thats not true, I tried paxil for 1 week and never got up out of my living room floor)As far as exercise I dance the tango and seem to have a lot of energy. I have also maintained muscle, therefore It has not affected my ability to work out. However, I do have one side effect and that is sexual.

Perhaps your doctor would consider polypharmacy, since you seem to react strongly to celexa's side effects. He could put you on a lower dose of celexa and a low dose of some other AD, like wellbutrin. So now, you would have double the AD benefits of two neuroleptics but, with minimal propensity for side-effects.

Hello, Merry X-mas/Happy New Year. I have been using Celexa for a month now and I am happy with the results. I was put on it for stress induced hives I haven't had a hive breakout since I started taking it. I am on 20mg daily and I take it in the early evening. I have not had any negative side effects as of yet. I do experience an increase in yawning at night and my eyes use to tear more (has stopped), but that is it. I am very pleased with the results. I am able to control the stress in my life. I will continue to keep in touch.

Dear Ginny,

That's interesting that you experienced
anxiousness with Celexa. I, on the other hand
am only taking 5 miligrams and feel
kind of sedated. I just started taking Celexa
about a week ago. I need to boost my amount, but
I am afraid it will make me too tired. Did
you ever experience any kind of sleepiness?
I am actually taking it for anxiety/panic disorder.
My anxiety has gone away, but now I feel kind of
slow and sleepy.

I just started taking Celexa a few months ago and stoped because my hair started falling out. Its the first Anti depressant I've ever taken & I feel a whole lot better. Mild stomach upset the first few days was the only bad thing about it, & that wasnt to bad. Any guys that have been having hair loss please respond. Thank you.

I have only good responses to Celexa. Any side-effect I may have is so mild that I am unaware of it. I'm taking 80mgs a day of Celexa. On top of that, I'm taking 450mgs a day of Wellbutrin. Also, I've recently recieved my third session of ECT. It has worked remarkably well. My depression is still continuing to lift. In fact I've been racing somewhat. But a little mania never hurt anyone, right? Actually, the truth is that it FEELS SO GOOD!!!!!!! I don't want the mania to end.

Hi Dave,
That's a good question. How have you previously reacted to SSRIS. No complications or unmanageable side-effects? If not, then I would expect your pdoc to increase Celexa 20mgs every few days until therapeutic range is achieved. The manufacturers recommended max dose of Celexa is 80mgs/day. I expect that the dopey feelings will diminish soon. I can say for myself the dopeys don't pester me.
Good Luck on Your New Program,
Nancy

I would take the chance of combining the low dose of each of the ADs. First of all, there will be fewer and less troublesome side-effects, because you are on a low dose. Adding an additional AD, you form a cocktail that's tough on depression, but, easy on your system.

Perhaps, we should ask Dr. Bob?

I started Celexa a couple of weeks ago in addition to
Deseryl, both taken at night. Does anybody else itch
on this? Otherwise I haven't noticed if it is doing
anything - I seem to be high one day and low the next.
I did have nausea today but hope it wasn't caused by
the new AD. I'm tired of trying different drugs.

Hello Erin,

I've been taking Celexa, since the middle of September. It has been very gentle to my body. I don't get headaches or GI distress. But best of all, Celexa has helped me to begin reducing the weight I'd gained while on Lithium (it should be outlawed) and Depakote (about as useless a drug as Lithium).

Also, I'm taking Seroquel(a fabulous antimanic/antipsychotic) and Wellbutrin (another good AD that also helps you lose weight). Plus, I take Clonazepam (it helps keep the lid on when I get manicy, which is often since I'm an ultra-rapid cycler). This cocktail of meds only causes me to have dry mouth. That's it. No serious or distressing side-effects.

I think you'll be very pleased with your results on Celexa.

Happy New Year,
Nancy

Hi Toni,
Yeah, I tried Deseryl. Then, I immediately threw it away. I consider it another garbage drug in the same sorry class as Lithium, Depakote and Tegretol. They all have aweful side-effects, but not much going for them in the way of therapeutic functionality.

I tell it like it is...
Happy New Year,
Nancy
