adult attention deficiet disorder

I consider it an eighty percent probability that i have add I know that 2.5 to 5 milligrams per day of dexidrine corrects many of the attention difficulties i have experienced in my life. Ihave little money. I estimate that to seek proffessional help would cost several hundred dollars just to convince a doctor that it really works for me and to prescribe it since it is such a highly abuseable drug. I dont want to seek illegal sources for two reasons the cost thru some street punk would probbally be just as expensive as fighting the medical establishment for the right to have this drug and anything i could get on the street would probbally be a caffiene fake. the so called epenephrine tab dont work nor does caffiene. I want help not a long expensive hassle either legal or otherwise. So heres my question, What are some sources of info that can tell me what the pharmacological actions of dexedrine is so that i can figure out why it works on me and can therefore seek out nutritional precursors might helpme ie supplementation with tyrosine 5htp phenyanaline or some other legal herb etc. i want to narrow the field to a manageable dollar amount. one could spend a fortune testing what works please emmail me . mrgetreal@aol.com thanks Jay

Jay:

I really don't know what nutritional or herbal substances would provide you with the same effect as dexedrine but I do hope that yoou try to seek medicall evaluation for waht you perceive to be ADD. Yoou may well ADD but then you may not since ADD is often diagnosed when the problem is depression or any of a number of other problems. And vice versa. ADD is considered a mental health problem and I highly recommend that you investigate in the region where you live for a mental health clinic which could help you. These services are sometimes free or provided on an ability to pay.

James here...

I agree. Give normal people Dex and of course they focus better and get more done. Dex and the stims are not like AD's in that they only work if you have ADD. YOu can't take anything herbal or otherwise at this point to raise thought and mood neurotransmitters to a significant degree. Your body makes these NT's from the food you take in (the amino acids are their percursers) and taking
the amino's directly by mouth does not significantly effect the NT's. The aminos do work for some as an adjunt to perscribed AD's or stims.

I met a woman online who treated her child with grapeseed extract with good results. I'm not sure how childhood ADD varies from adult ADD, but it might be worth a try. I've recently been diagnosed with ADD, and I am going to try it. It's just something to think about.

How about having your old medical records transferred to a new doc? It always worked for us.

New messsege
I am looking for conferences, retreats, seminars, or whatever available to learn more and apply.
I am a sixth grade teacher, now on leave, until I get my meds and outbursts under control.
I may be looking for new work but I have the summer to get it straight. I feel a need to become an expert. If it is this hard for an educated adult to work in this system, my ADD students are really suffering. It breaks my heart.
Someone needs to do something so I guess it has to start with me.
I have read three books this week and am in search of other resources. Thanks
