Help!
Took Depakote for several months, gained 20 pounds - starting Celexa today in combo with Depakote - anyone else doing this? How is it working - have no energy or motivation. 750mg Depakote per day, 20mg Celexa.
Thanks!

I've been taking 20mg of Celexa daily for about 2.5 months and the only side effect I have is that I sleep too much (10-12 hours a night). If I don't get that much sleep, I'm tired all day. Other than that, works great. Anybody else having this problem? Does it go away after a while or will it be a problem the entire time I'm on Celexa?

I'm on 300mgs of Desipramine, up from 250 because for some reason I was showing really low levels in my blood draws. As my desipramine levels dropped, I experienced some paranoia, panic, anxiety, and obsessive thinking bouts that I had a hard time snapping out of. My doctor just put me on Celexa last week, it's been 7 days now and my panic is pretty much gone but today I feel so spacey I can barely work. I'm only on 5mgs so who knows how much effect I can even feel. Anyways I'm going to stick with it for now, my energy is okay (probably because of the Desipramine). I'd like to hear what others think who have been on Celexa longer, and especially in combination with tricyclics. Thanks!

Pros and cons of celexa for an adolescent

Celexa for an adolescent. Since it is a new
drug, I can't find any info. on it for
teenagers. 16yrold with major depressionis currently on 100mg
of Zoloft for 1 month (2 weeks at 100) without seeing benefits
from medication. Also has some mild hand tremors.
Does research and clinical practice indicate that the tremors go away with time?
How long should he try Zoloft before changing to another medication? Which medication would be recommended to lower risk
of his side effect profile. 1 physician has suggested Zoloft but I can't get any good indication of why? Would appreicate any info that can be forwarded.

Correction: 1 physician has suggested Celexa without giving us any reason as to why it might be a better choice. With a teenager, we want to be sure that it is a good choice before consideration of any switch.

I also had tremors with prozac and switched to celexa after a failed attempt on paxil. No tremors and feel pretty well, but I am also taking xanax for anxiety and don't know if that is why I have no tremors. Does anyone know if Celexa relieves anxiety? I'd like to get off xanax

I was on Celexa for approximately 6 weeks. Prior to Celexa, I was on Prozac but took a five month break to see how I functioned without any anti-depressent.
For awhile I was fine without anything but eventually had to take something.
My physician wanted me to try Celexa since its the new "miracle" drug. The first few weeks were fine; however, after three weeks, I noticed excessive sweating, major
insomina (AND I MEAN MAJOR) and weight gain. Although Celexa took my appetite away, the weight just came on anyway. I also started having semi-panic attacks on the Celexa.

After speaking with my physician in depth, we decided to go back to the Prozac.

I really had no major side effects with Prozac except the infamous sweating and loss of sex drive. However, I think if you are feeling BETTER all around, and your mate is understanding you
can get around the loss of sex-drive; you would be surprised how many people have overcome this side-effect by trying not to focus on it. Don't get me wrong, its a tough situation,
however, my husband and I both decided it would be better to have me feeling "normal" 24 hours a day and work together on the sex drive issue.

I just started the prozac a few days ago, so I have no idea what my reaction will be this time but in comparing the two - celexa and prozac, my choice would definetly be PROZAC.

Peace and happiness to all.

Well, I just came off of Celexa and on to Wellbutrin/Prozac. For me the Celexa gave me stomach problems that did not go away. I also noticed that I was losing my temper a lot. (I never lose my temper). I've only been on the Wellbutrin/Prozac for a week and I have yet to see any side effects. What problems did you have with it??

HI, I started on Paxil it was good, made me feel very relaxed. But the side effects where terrible. I was very tired all the time and the sex drive, NON. I switched to Celexa and I have my sex drive back. I do get headaches, mostly in the morning then goes away.

I tried to go off it and its OK for a few weeks then I get the feeling of angziatie back again.

I guess I will keep on the Celexa for now.

past 5 it's been bulimia. He said that it was probably
brought on by severe depression so he decided to let
me try celexa. i've only been on it for a week now, i
really don't feel any different, but i know that
it'll take a while to work. Does anybody know anything

I've heard the same thing about bulemia and SSRIs in general - I think primarily from some FDA descriptions I was reading about Paxil. Also, I think some of it might have been from yahoo health (search for Paxil). I didn't really find much from a search for Celexa, maybe because it's still quite new.

If I'm remembering correctly, the idea of SSRIs treating bulemia went beyond getting rid of depression as a cause - I may be wrong but I think there are also some theories about bulemia having organic roots, and SSRIs treating that. I believe in this anorexia was quite different.

Good luck

Hi, I started on celexa around 3-5 months ago. I tried trazodone before that. Tra.. didnt seem to help me as much. I tried taking buspar twice, but couldnt keep it down. You couldn't get me to try it again. All of these have different effects on different people I'm sure.
I'm seeing two different doctors for two different reasons. The newest doctor wants me to go on prozac to help treat a different area. But I'm not sure if I want to change meds. So far it has helped my depression. Some hand tremors and more sweating but beats deep depression. Haven't notice any long term appetite or weight change. My sex drive has been pretty normal so far I feel. I don't have a steady partner now to have a good judge of my feelings on it. But this does concern me very much. I would like to know more studies on this area as it regards to my new treament area.

I have been on Celexa for approx 9 months now. I was up to 60mg a day. I was doing well for quite a while, but for the past 2 months, I have been having panic attacks, tremors and all around nervousness. After talking with with several doctors, I have deceided to reduce my dosage. I am now taking 10 mgs a day, and things are a more managable. I still have the panic and tremors, but not as severe. I do not want to go off my meds, but I have been on every anti depressant on the market, and eventually I wind up with the same symptoms. Anyone have anything to add to this?

After talking with with several doctors, I have deceided to reduce my dosage. I am now taking 10 mgs a day, and things are a more managable. I still have the panic and tremors, but not as severe. I do not want to go off my meds, but I have been on every anti depressant on the market, and eventually I wind up with the same symptoms. Anyone have anything to add to this?

I was having the same problem with Celexa. Panic was increasing. I have been off it for about 3 weeks. I am struggling some but it kinda feels good to know that I don't have to deal with all the other side effects.

I've been on Celexa 2 weeks now, 20 mg (I'm not very big) I was on Paxil, which added to my anxiety and depression, and made me groggy and but unable to sleep. I think Celexa is making my insomnia worse than it's ever been. I weigh 120lbs, and 10 mg of ambien won't put me to sleep. I can't function much longer like this- Are there anti-depressants/anxiety drugs that don't cause insomnia? Does any one have advice for insomnia? I'm cutting out caffeine, warm baths, aromatherapy, and I still can't sleep. Please help!
