Has anyone tried Luvox?

Posted by Samantha on March 29, 1999, at 13:36:52

My doctor has recently switched me to Luvox (from Prozac) because of the sexual side effects. Has anyone had any of those types of problems with Luvox? I also wanted to know (and forgot to ask him), does Luvox cause weight gain? That was one nice thing about the Prozac, I actually lost 10 pounds the first year.

> I was on Paxil for over a year for OCD and was switched to Luvox. I was extremely hesitant to use meds in the first place but had no choice. The paxil to me was very sedating and I did gain about 20 lbs. I never had a weight problem until going on these meds. With Luvox I feel more myself (more energy, not as tired). I am in the process of trying to lose weight and did lose 3 lbs last week by using the Medifast program. It's working!

Samantha,

Most SSRIs cause weight gain long-term, though the amount can be slight to considerable. It's only recently that people seem to be appreciating this fact. It's not clear in my own mind how much weight gain people actually experience on SSRIs--for a number of years they were touted as potential diet drugs. (There was a basis for this, though, they tend to cause weight loss in the short term.)

>>Samantha,
I had heard Luvox was a 'good drug'. IMHO
go slow upping dose. I took a ride with EMS to ER
while on Luvox. My heart rate and blood pressure were rising faster than the Dow Jones. Not a typical response to Luvox but all S/B aware.

-Thanks...Phil
