Sweating relief?

Posted by Karyn on August 24, 1998, at 20:11:28

Hi all, I have been on Paxil and now Zoloft for panic disorder. They have both helped tremendously but have caused me horrible sweating. Finally I have potential relief- I am about to try Hytrin 1 mg. taken at night- this is supposed to (hopefully) relieve the sweating. Has anyone had experience with this drug or others that have helped this problem?

Sweating is a _huge_ problem for me in the summertime.
I take Nardil. Hytrin didn't do much for me. Robinul,
an old anticholinergic, helps, but it dries out my
mouth and gives me a sore throat. Still, it's the best
one I've tried. I also use Xerac AC, a topical solution
that minimizes sweating on the body.

I'm glad that you asked this question because I am also sweating all the time. I take Prozac and Wellbutrin with Dexedrine for adult ADD. I asked the Dr. today aboout the sweating and he said it was a side effect of Prozac and to some extent Wellbutrin. If the medication your dr. prescribed alleviates your sweating problem, please let me know --I haven't had a good hair day in quite a while.

Can't believe I found something about a condition I thought was being caused by aging, even though I'm only 39! I too am on Wellbutrin, no other meds have caused this in the past, think this could be it?

It's so good to know that others are as uncomfortable as I am (or is it as miserable) with the sweating - I'm 51 and my gyn increased the dose of estrogen thinking that was the problem. If Dr. Bob sees this, could he please help us? Some days I think I have to shower 3-4 times from the sweat!! But i have started experiencing other side effests from the prozac (anxiety with .sort of a flat dull I don't give a damn feeling) so my dose of prozac is being reduced to 10mgs a day. If I find this gives me some relief, I will let you know. Perhaps you can change meds. I just hate this sweating...but it could be another side effect which is worse, Thanks to all of you for being out there,

There's a page in Psychopharmacology Tips on this.
One of the search categories is Sweating, you can
click on it and then on the Search button to get
the link.

Thank you . I read it and found it very helpful. One more question - in addition to the article on SSRIs and Apathy, do you have any suggesstions where I might find more info on the flat, blah, I don't care, no ambition and totally unmotivated but NOT depressed feeling I have with 40 mgs of Prozac daily in addition to 40 mgs Dexedrine for ADD. I even think the Prozac is dimishing the effect of the dexedrine and I cannot find anything on that. Suggestions are most welcome.

Thank you for your work on the net.

I am currently on 300 mg of Wellbutrin (150mg SR 2x day) for treatment of depression and ADD and I've noticed increased sweating. I was on prozac several years ago, and even though I was on a very high dosage (100mg daily) I had no sweating problems. Mostly I notice it at night, I wake up soaking and shivering almost every night. It's annoying, but a small price to pay for how much better I've been feeling.

I can't believe that there are others out there that are suffering like i am! Antidepressants have saved my life- but the prominant side-effect for me is SWEATING. After consulting my PCP, an endocronolist, a thoraic seurgon, a psychitrist and psychologist -- all agreed that I should have the procedure Endoscoptic Thoracic Syncoptemy and, accordingly, sent detailed letters to my insurance carrier (Health Care Plan). Well, guess what? In typical HMO fashion they have declined the procdure as medically unecessary (and, of course, there decision is not reviewable!)

It controlled the excessive sweating within 10 days. I have slightly less anxiety and no significant panic attacks. I strongly recommend that you discuss Serzone with your doctor. It has changed my life. March 31, 1999
