Weight LOSS is one of the common side effects of effexor. And of couse, anything that stops the depression could help the overeating if it is due (in part) to depression. Other types of antidepos so tend to cause weight gain; maybe your worries are due to having heard of those.

My experience has been that Effexor actually decreased
my appetite. As far as the sexual side effects, it only
takes longer than it used to, so no more "commercial breaks"
Plan on more time. Not a bad thing if you are a little
creative like my wife.

Good luck, and hang in there.

Dear v,
not to worry. As a young woman I have also worried about the effect of depression drugs on my weight. I have been on Effexor for a while now and it definitely has not increased my general appetite. I haven't felt the need to eat piles of chocolate and chips anymore when feeling low in that particular way you sometimes do, yet I have had enough appetite to eat quite normally. Recently I found that I had lost weight without even noticing, which was a pleasant surprise seeing that I'm not exactly an exercise-fanatic. I was not over-weight (medically, although I certainly felt I was fatter than I should be) before so I am not sure if this was useful information, but I think bingeing is bingeing whatever your weight at the moment. So in that respect I certainly recommend Effexor to you and wish you better days in the future.
As for you guys who mentioned sexual problems, I would like to add that my sexual desire and thus my ability to enjoy sex (or "perform",although I dislike that term)IF I even would have let any man near me have been very nearly down to zero during my depression. I have not found that Effexor would have made the situation worse in that area, on the contrary I feel like I'm waking up again...which I guess is because the depression itself is, hopefully, finally leaving me.
Maaria

When I learned I was pregnant I had been taking effexor for about two months. Not only that, but I was two months pregnant when the day I found out I was. Currently I am looking for a good obstetritian to follow up on my visits, but for now I would like to know how I could have affected my unborn child. Please respond as soon you can.

Sexual Desire

I have been on Effexor XR and lost my sexual desire and actually my
orgasms. My Dr. put me on Buspar at the same time and it has transformed my sexual desires.
I can now orgasm again also.

Lee, congrats! Am also on Effexor-XR, and have found that at the higher dose I'm taking now, it takes longer to get the "engine" going and to get up to full speed. So far, I've been lucky that I can still reach orgasm. Will hang on to your post, in case Effexor starts to kill my responses. Thanks for the suggestion!

Losing my sexual desire, sensation/feeling physically and the ability to share orgasm with my husband has actually WORSENED my depression after trying zoloft, then serzone...it got better but I couldn't stay awake or remember ANYTHING...and now on celexa. I have decided to go off of all of the anti-depressants with the help of my nurse and am down to 10mg a day and am going to continue counseling and get on a regimented more active exercise program....I need more aerobic activity. Also checking my diet and sugar levels and hormones...PMS is the trigger for my depression and it seems to ebb and wane each month regardless of the meds anyway. So we're taking another approach. Anyone else have similar experiences with this?

When I (finally) managed to concieve, my husband had started back up on the Effexor (37.5 mg, on the way back up to 225). My daughter is now 11 months old, without anything to be concerned about. She is healthy, happy and developing normally. How high (is) your dose? Good luck!

There is a big difference between Mari taking the Effexor while pregnant and your husband taking it.

Does anyone know what birth defects could be caused by taking Effexor durring pregnancy? I haven't been able to get any straight answers. Any information would be appreciated.
