Quiting Celexa :-(

Posted by dave on February 20, 1999, at 16:28:15

Hello All,

Sorry for the bad news but I'm having to quit Celexa.
It's a shame because It really makes me feel better,
but it makes me itch and causes skin problems in
certain areas. I havent talked to my doc yet but
I was on half dose (10mg) the first 3 days to see if
I tolerate it. She would have told me to stop it,
like she did when she found out the wellbutrin made
me itch. That was a shame too, cause I felt pretty
good on the wellbutrin. Oh well, she will probably
have me try Serzone next. I hope everyone else is
doing well and finding something that works.
Sincerely
dave

Wow, I guess I should read all of the posts before responding! I just wrote you a note on the above thread!

I am so sorry to hear that you are having problems with it ... I hope the next one will work for you. It's so difficult to keep looking for a drug that will work and not have awful side effects. I'll send good med-vibes your way :-)

Hi Shelley,

I read your other post too, Thanks for your encouragement.
I really felt bad about having to give the bad news.
You were the one person I really wanted most
to hear that it was gonna work for me too but it
didn't, well it worked but I couldnt tolerate it.
There is good news though--Those good-med vibes, gave
me a big SMILE! Thanks, I needed that! :-)
I'll stay hopeful, something will work, maybe my
doc will try serzone next. I'll keep you and
everyone else posted.
Sincerely
dave

Dave,

Hey -- we have all been there! I don't know anyone (personally) on any antidepressant that has had a fabulous match with the very first try. They may exist, but I don't know of anyone! Our wonderfully diverse brains respond need diverse meds and doses. So, even though it's difficult, please hang in there! I am sure you will find another med or med combo that will work for you.

If you want to chat, feel free to email me at shelley@earthling.net -- and I will keep up the good med vibes for you :-)

I was one-- Prozac fit me perfectly, until other issues arose and it pooped out.

I've heard (and experienced) mixed things about Serzone. Why not give Remeron, Effexor (though coming off this drug can be not fun), Zoloft or Prozac a shot?

If you do go with Serzone, check with your p-doc; certain of the SSRIs (I don't know about Celexa) interact with Serzone and can make one feel pretty bad (this is to say make sure the Celexa clears your system).

Dave-
Is there any chance of trying 5mg/day? When I first started Effexor
I took 1/2 of 37.5 mg cap(I eyeballed 1/2 of cap and swallowed the "grains"
thereby saving the rest for the next day. The stuff has no taste). Due to
mega-nausea this was all I could stand but by the 2nd week I could
tolerate 37.5 and so on (up to current 225mg). I took it VERY SLOWLY and my doc said this
was exactly what I should do. Of course only you can decide what is]
too uncomfortable. Best of luck!

Thanks Bigbertha,
Yeah, I guess I just had a reaction to the Celexa.
I talked to my doc today and I suggested and she
agreed, once I get back to baseline (no itching at
all) we will try smaller doses of wellbutrin- give
that AD another try. I felt pretty good on it but
once up to 300mg I started to itch. Maybe on 150mg
wouldnt cause any problem, she said we have lots of
options. Thanks again for you input! :-)
I hope everyone is doing well!
Sincerely
dave

Sometimes a different color pill can make a difference, even if the active ingredient is the same. :-) See:

Dave, I was told I was allergic to the coating on the pill, and that special orders could be made for generic meds from different companies that might use different coatings. I'm not sure this helps with Wellbutrin since it is new. Hmm....trying to be helpful, Shell
