Remeron: How much is to much? Toby?

Posted by Jef* on January 25, 1999, at 0:32:53

I have gone up to 45mg in first week with good effects. I am wondering if I keep increasing the dose - will the mood keep improving? I am also taking Effexor225mg, Pindolol15mg. and Dexadrine40mg.

I know of people who have taken 60mg and even more. The question is what does this much Remeron do in combo with all the other meds you're taking.

There shouldn't be any problem with the meds you are taking plus the Remeron since they all act on different receptors and enzymes in the liver. Before going higher than 45 mg, it's probably preferable to hang out at that dose for at least 2-3 weeks, especially if you are having a good response. Remember, it isn't the medication itself that is making you feel better, it is the fact that the medication is allowing your body's own chemistry to correct itself. At 45 mg, almost all of the receptors are occupied and going up too quickly means there will be alot of medication floating around without anything to work on and may end up causing side effects.

I have been on 45mg of Remeron for 3 weeks and am agitated and depressed. Anyone else this hasn't been effective as antidepressant

Bonnie, Remeron did nothing for me except make me exhausted and incredibly hungry. It seems like one of those meds that either REALLY helps or REALLY makes you want to pour it down the drain. I'm kind of surprised that it is making you agitated, since it's so sedating, although come to think of it I was severely agitated when I was taking it, but I attributed that to the fact that all I was doing was eating and sleeping and there was nothing I could do about it. Your doctor might want to try increasing the dose at this point, to see if it's more effective at the higher dose. Otherwise, it might just be another one to cross off the list...
