This is good news. You may drift up and down for awhile, especially until you reach your individual therapeutic dosage. Just know that recovery from severe depression is not necessarily a smooth ride. Living is still a day by day experience. If you can maintain a hopeful attitude despite occasional worsenings, you will have an easier time tolerating these episodes as your response becomes more and more robust.

> hey maxime, i was gonna say you seemed in better spirits, but didn't want to sound presumptuous :) 50mg is really helping me. my physical anxiety has vanished. but oh the insomnia ! i actually took a page from Delna's book and e-mailed Ivan Goldberg asking if in his experience there is any trend regarding a dose where the insomnia starts to fade. i am already taking more than i was prescribed, but i don't care; i will double up on prescriptions if it means sleeping sooner.

Treating the insomnia might take as much of an aggressive treatment as the depression does. Trial and error might be necessary. Just because Ambien doesn't help does not mean that Ativan won't. You may even have to combine medications to treat the insomnia. When I was on Parnate + desipramine the first time, I needed Halcion + Ativan to treat the emergent insomnia.

Good luck.

Wohooo Maxime!! That's indeed great news!!
Hopefully you'll find something that let's you sleep soon (or the higher dose if you say so).
BTW: Did you ever notice any weight gain on parnate?

I hope you will get even better and better soon!

Good luck :)

Take care

> Well, like the last time I was on Parnate, 40 mg is the dose that made the difference. I am up to 50 mg now and will go to 80 mg and then stop. My mood is lighter than it has been in weeks. I still have moments in the day when I want to end everything, but they go away as quickly as they came. I feel like I have hope now. And think of how much better I will feel once I actually get some sleep!

A question for you. When you hit the right dose on parnate do you feel it from day one or do you have to wait longer? Dr. goldberg mentions 8 weeks at the highest dose you can tolerate. This seems to indicate that some have to stick at a max dose for a while before it kicks in.

No, I never had weight gain on Parnate. I had it from Nardil.

It usually takes several weeks at that dosage. Maybe not as many as 8 weeks, but it does take some time. But I think it's worth the wait. :)

Delna, I still feel like sh*t during the day from not sleeping but I don't stay in bed. I get up and I do things no matter how crappy I feel. I see my pdoc tomorrow and will get some Ativan to help with sleep. Then once I am getting sleep we will see if I still have the daytime fatigue. I hope not.

I am so pulling for you, Maxime. You are one of the bravest people I have ever "known" here. I read all your posts. I hope you don't mind. One person mentioned once that they thought it was creepy to read and never answer and then tell anyone you do that (they felt 'stalked') so now I wonder if others think so, too. But I am telling you anyway. I don't have anything to add about meds, etc., so i am just quiet and read and **cheer** for your smallest victories. Even if you wrote that you slept 2 hours one night, instead of 1, I would cheer for that.

I will never forget a response you wrote me a long, long time back on the Eating board. It was beautiful. It made me feel so much better at that time when I was sort of wallowing about hating my body size, weight, tendencies to overeat, etc.

You just keep on, and keep on, like you already have....i know it's so, so hard.

You do sound a bit better... :-)

Thank you so much! :-) Of course I don't mind that you read all my posts, and no, you don't sound like a stalker!!

I was thinking today how much I have been through with this bipolar illness. Really, I shouldn't even be alive with some of the things I have done to myself, and some of the things done to me by the illness. I have survived a lot. I guess I am a survivor!

I'm crying now. I am surely losing my mind at this point. I wish that someone could help me. My head is throbing. I just took 3 liquid advil gels. I'm sorry, I must sound like such a baby, but really this is more than I can bear.

No, you don't sound like a baby . Just someone who is suffering. :(
I feel so bad that you are feeling so rotten.I wish there was something I could do, or even suggest.
I am thinking of you, sending you lots of love and strength and praying that you get through this awful period.
:(((

When I was on parnate the insomnia resolved and I began to sleep well.
Some one used a combo of klonopin and sublingual melatonin to sleep and found it very effective.
May the Gods that created our universe be with you.

No, I didn't sleep last night. I almost ended up hurting myself very badly because I was in so much pain.

I got the Ativan today and took 2 mg as prescribed. It didn't knock me out. It just made me sleepy and stoned. Will try 4 mg tonight.

I took 6 mg and slept like a baby. I emailed my pdoc to let him know that it took 3 times what he prscribed to knock me out. Maybe tonight I can take 4 mg since I have some sleep in me.
