I tried switching to taking it in the morning because I would stay sleepy all day and then be unable to sleep at night. My doctor gave me .25mg of xanax to help me get to sleep at night.

I am having a good day today but I know what you mean about being sleepy all day and nearly falling asleep at work. Also I find that I don't sleep good at night. Like a dose and not a deep sleep. I am reluctant to ask for something afraid of the morning after affects. Do you find that you have a hard time getting up in the morning on xanax?

I usually take one or two generic benadryl tablets to sleep at night. It is the same ingredient in Tylenol P.M. without the Tylenol and without the price tag.

What about Ambien? I used that before going on Lexapro and half or 1/3 tablet worked well for me. Haven't tried it lately but last night had trouble sleeping (figured maybe I'd made up for past sleep deficits with recent naps and 9 hrs of sleep per night...). I found that now at least when I lie awake I don't feel anxious about not sleeping, and that's a big change!

I use Melatonin, a natural supplement. It works pretty well for me. Good luck!

I never thought about using benadryl it won't cost me anything because my husband is a veterinarian and we keep it on the shelf at the office.

What is anxiety?

I have been taking Lexapro for about 4 months and have been doing pretty good, but just wondering if any of you can explain your symptoms of anxiety.

My doc said I have a pre-occupation with the fear of puking or passing out in public (true) and thought the Lexapro might calm me. Also I get nervous when I'm sitting in a crowd (like in bleachers at a concert) and I'm not on the aisle -- I don't like being penned in (and mostly have a fear that I might have to puke and can't get out).

But the confusing part of my "anxiety" is that before anything happened to me to trigger an alarm that something might be wrong, I was fine. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt like I was going to pass out, got really light headed, and had a hot flush throughout my whole body. I'm assuming it was a panic attack, but since I never had one I can't be for sure.

Since takig Lexapro, I still have a nagging fear in the back of my head, but it is not foremost in my mind anymore. Also, I've stopped being so obsessive about house cleaning like I was before.

Can anyone give me their experience with fear/panic attacks?

Thanks!

Sounds like you had a panic attack, and also sounds exactly like the kind of anxiety I suffer from (need to sit on aisle, worry about throwing up/passing out in public, apparently goofy fears that aren't that goofy when they determine where you'll go and what you'll do and make you feel relieved when a scheduled event is cancelled). I also have found that I can still imagine these scary things happening now that I'm on Lexapro, but they don't seem to get a very strong grip on me anymore. Like I'm able to acknowledge them and let go; they don't consume my thoughts.

I've only been on Lex for 10 days...but I'm definitely feeling better now and hoping for better than ever, which always makes me think of that awful song Candice Bergan sang so badly in the movie "Starting Over" and then I have to laugh...

Thanks for your input -- and yes, it does sound like we have the same type of anxiety. I don't know why I worry about puking/passing out in public. Funny thing is, I'm not even feeling sick to my stomach, but when I go to restaurants, I map out the closest route to the bathroom anyway, and then I end up giving myself a stomach ache in the end. It is really frustrating!

My doc told me he bet I would be feeling better in 10 days, and that was the first day I didn't feel like I was floating on an ocean without a boat. I haven't had that "floating" feeling since, so it's got to be doing something right!!

Yep you got it, sorry to say. I asked my pdoc what the difference was and there isn't, they both are treatde the same way. Lex helps with panic, anxiety and depression and it takes weeks to get the full benefit. Now Xanax is almost instantaneous fo anxiety. I take 25mg of Lex for anxiety and I take .75 mg of xanax 4x a day. Also after I got my anxiety under control I started having slight depression and he gave me Remeron to take at night. I started this process back in March. If you still get into stiuations that give you your anxiety or panic you may want to ask about Xanax. My PDOC says he always has a xanax with him. xanax is one that you don't have to take daily. I will wean off of it when I'm free of everything for a few months and I have been feeling good lately.

Take care Tim

Yes, you have anxiety, and it comes in many forms, social anxiety, which is fear of social situations etc.. and agorophobia which is fear of public in general, but when it is all said and done it is a fear that won't go away, even though you know it seems irrational. I take clonazepam for anxiety, unfortunately lexapro is not available in Canada yet! I have Generalized Anxiety disorder, which is just a constant fear or impending doom.
Xanax is from a group of drugs called benzodiazepines which are anti-anxiety agents that work quickly, can be addictive, although I have used mine for 6 years now, without changing my dose. And like someone else had mentioned, it is a good idea to have one just incase. People with panic attacks are given the same thing.
Also, cognitive therapy, is a great tool to help with anxiety, it doesn't cure it, but you can learn some cool things to help you deal!
All the best!

Insomnia has been my major continuing side effect with Lezapro (20mg). My doctor prescribed Trazodone 100mg to take at night. The combination, now with Wellbutrin XL 150mg, has worked well for me. I don't feel groggy from Trazodone in the morning, or light headed or anything. Good luck and peace.

I took 2.5 mg. of Lexapro this morning at 9:00 am. It’s now 10:30 pm and I’m still “jumping out of my skin”. It’s amazing how different we all are. Many have reported that it puts them to sleep. I just took 2.0 mg lorazapam and 25 mg Trazadone to put me to sleep. This combo usually puts me right out but (1/2 hour later) I’m writing this message!

Not liking this. Not Liking this at all.

(sorry about the double post)

The anxiety/panic attacks that I have manifest themselves with heart racing or flutters, sometimes a hyperventalation type feeling, knots in my stomach and an irrational overwhelming thought that I just can't get out of bed, go to work, face the day, etc. It's a pull the covers over your head type thing. I don't usually have them once I can get up and get going and have not had any since the Lexapro started working. The only other time I have ever had a panic attack was scuba diving when I freaked out. That was scary, but I just talked myself out of it and tried to breath slowly.

I thought it was just me that wasn't getting any sleep... Between the very vivid dreams and the constant waking, it's becoming quite untolerable.

Do the sleeping aids help with the dreams? Are you groggy in the morning?

I totally had the throat closing up thing going on when I started Lexapro and it freaked me out! I also had itching, neck and back tightness, hot flashes and the whole weird head expanding thing too. It helped me so much when people told me it was not me - it was the medecine. I hope this helps you!

I'm on my 3rd day and feel a little jittery and get these weird waves of heat and almost tremors every so often. I'm a little sleepy and sometimes feel like I'm on the verge of a panic attack, but then it abates quickly. I'm thinking that it'll get better. Hang in there and do what's right for you - call your doctor if you're worried!

When I first started, I had hot flashes and if you look back at some posts, some people had excessive sweating at first, as did I. It resolved after a couple weeks. I felt a little jittery and nauseated for about a week or so and that resolved. Once it starts working and it took 5-6 weeks for me, Lex is a great drug. The side effects did not last that long and it was well worth toughing it through. I had tried numerous other AD before and they either did not work or had such bad side effects that I couldn't handle them. Good luck and hang in there.

kaylee,

I had weird hot flashes throughout the whole first day of taking Lexapro. It felt like it started in my head and bloomed throughout my chest. I never did sweat though. But the side effect went away the next day.

I guess I was pretty lucky because I was never nauseated or sleepless or anything with the medication. I felt weird or uneasy the first few days, but after I realized I was going to tolerate them allright, I relaxed and it's been easy going so far. I'm up to month 4 and no problems to speak of.

I think most side effects will go away within a few days. After your body gets used to the medicine being inside you.

Good luck to you!

I too had the bubble-head, sweaty armpits, itchy rash, nausea, diahrea, migrane-like headaches, tiredness, sleepiness, jaw clenching, loss of appetite, blurred vision, zombie, unable to concentrate or make decisions, etc. All were subsiding or gone by wk 2-3.

I think prospects are GOOD! Lex has helped me get through lots of tough spots so far. Definitely start at a lower dosage to help your body get used to it, I started at 5mg and wish I had started at 2.5mg.

Best of luck!~~~8|8
