My mind is on this side of 'normal' (for lack of a better word -- I hate using that term!), but I still lean towards depressive types of beh'rs because I am so used to those reactions from years of sometimes debilitating depression. At least I am ready for the journey now! And I have to say, I am grateful that the Celexa kicked in when it did -- I have two major issues happening in my life that I could never have handled if I were still depressed.

Anyhow, now that I feel like Celexa has 'kicked in' its easier to benefit from cognitive therapy ie. changing my old ways, and learning that all my experiences throughout my life so far have created filters which I see the world through. My interpretations are constantly changing and I hope getting healthier. My therapist told me this, I AM ENOUGH, I HAVE ENOUGH, I DO ENOUGH, and what others think of me is none of my business. I've been on 20 mg/day for about 4 mos., with good results (I had previously tried Prozac, with minimal to no improvement). Lately, though, I've been considering upping the dose. Do you (or anyone else here) have any advice? I feel much more on even-keel than ever, but I suspect there could be more out there for me...what do you think?

I'm interested in trying Celexa, after having just about given up on all AD's. I've had terrible side effects with everything I've tried. I'm very suseptible to medication's side effects. I'm on no meds now and have been very nervous about the decision to stop taking meds. Now I find that nervousness is blowing up into total anxiety. If anyone wants to talk about their experiences with Celexa, or their depression/anxiety/insomnia, please feel free to e mail me at PLucas119@aol.com.

Shelley,

Congrats on your Celexa success. I've suffered endlessly from depression and mood disorders. I'm considering switching from Zoloft to Celexa. Should I expect a dramatic lift in my mood? I sure hope so. Let me know what to expect from the stuff.

i am just starting celexa, without much info on the
side effects. mainly, i am concerned with sexual
dyfunction, sleepiness, and memory loss. i have
been on various other meds (prozac, zoloft,
wellbutrin, serzone, luvox). one thing that i have
noticed is an absentmindedness or memory loss when
i increased the dosage (10 to 20). i haven't noticed
any fatigue or sleepiness problems. but about the
sexual dysfunction... from reading your notes, my
sex drive might actually return?
anyone with info?

I've been on Celexa for about 2.5 months at 20mg/day and it works great except that I sleep 10-12 hours/night.
If I don't get that much sleep I'm tired the next day. I'm thinking about asking my Dr. to decrease my dosage
and see if that helps. Any one else have a similar experience?

Please let me know what experience anyone has had with switching from Zoloft to Celexa. How did you taper off one drug and could you overlap Celexa with Zoloft at lower dosages or did you have to go to a complete "washout" of the Zoloft first? Any side effects of tremors with Celexa?

I have been taking AD's for years - and just about everything available at one time or another. Effexor has been effective but leaves me anxious and a bit panicky. while i have been on Celexa only for a week I have noticed a marked reduction of panic and anxiety. I am still taking a half does of effexor to mitigate the withdrawel from the effexor. SSRI's with the exception of effexor caused me to have a horrible headache just at the moment of ejaculation sometimes lasting 2 or 3 days, A symtom my doctor was surprised at. effexor fixed that but the trade off was constant low grade headaches. the fact that Celexa worked quickly for me is one of those oddities and it's still far too soon to know what the ultimate effects of celexa will provide. One of Celexa's best attribute is it's no reactive nature with other drugs - Infact the only outstanding drug interaction is with MAIO's, all SSRI's have this incommon. I also take Klonopine for panic, and once again it is to soon to know if that can be dispenced with. It would be nice to get down to one drug that solves all the issue's.

I guess what bothers me is the years of trying everything and finding that nardil which made me feel great had to be with drawn, do to very low blood pressure. If Celexa turns out to be the right treatment for me, I will be delighted! However, This SSRI (Celexa) was available for more than 8 years in Europe and millions have sufferred trying to hit on the analogue of SSRI that works for us. It's fine that there are several available in the US. and have proved beneficial for many. I do take issue with the FDA for dragging it's feet on Celexa. It was carefully studied in Europe and Proven as safe and effective for many. 8 years ago this might have saved me from making some terrible mistakes that lead to many problems, from the work place to my personal life. remember that SSRI's are new here in relative terms, There was a possible solution at hand 8 years ago. Apparently a foriegn produced Drug wasn't good enough for us. Anyone who has sufferred from Deppresion knows that life is hell - If it is safe and effective, if only for some folks, Then those whom it benefits should get it. To those of you trying Celexa, I wish you success and a return to happiness.

One final note - Celexa is also Less expensive and will in a couple of years be generic - Can you say "Drug Company Greed"

I have noticed absentmindedness and insomnia as a few of my
symptoms. I was feeling great for the first 4-6wks and think
it is one of the best SSRIs out there, however,
suddenly my energy dropped and now I wonder if I should
go upto 40mg daily. My only concern is the sleeplessness.

I took Celexa 20 mg for 8 months In the beginning the effect was tremendous.
I was able to cope with some pretty difficult and depressing issues.
I expereienced strange dreams, sleeplessness ( I've had insomnia for years)
I felt like these side effects were minor compared to the crushing depression I had expereienced before.
I had tried Paxil and even the smallest dose turned me into a "Zombie" I
Exercise helped and I began working out vigorously on a regular basis ( 90 min 5x a week)
I slowly began to put on weight and did not connect it with the celexa
I had been told that weight loss was a side effect. I continued to gain weight and the depression slowly returned.
Now almost 25lbs later I'm calling it quits. I have recently found that many people have the same problem.
I know what took only months to gain will take me much longer to lose. Good luck to you all

hi lisa- i have been on celexa for about two
months and had noticed, as i mentioned previously,
absentmindedness/forgetfulness when i increased
the dosage (10 to 20). i went back down to 10 for
a few more weeks and then increased up to 20. that
seemed to lessen the feeling that i had become more
forgetful. but now that i have been on celexa (20)
for about a month, i fully notice me blatantly
forgetting things. i also have started taking
ginko biloba to try to "reverse" this effect. from
what i have read about celexa, from the threads,
it takes a while to (a) kick in and start working,
and (b) some of the side effects eventually do
lessen. this is what i am banking on. i think
patience is the key with this ad. there have
been quite a few threads on "success stories"
of people that are doing well on celexa. that's
what keeps me from stopping (i think about
stopping every day. keep me informed, we seem
to be having the same side effects and it
would be good to find out if they do ever
lessen.
take care
dina

I have also noticed forgetfulness and being absent-minded. This is my third week on Celexa. Today was especially hard-couldn't find keys, receipts, my bank deposit. I was getting really frustrated with myself. Otherwise I have been doing great so far. Dry mouth is an issue-drink lots of water, some weight loss and the fatigue is beginning to subside. Good luck! I think this is a good medication. I have really noticed a positive difference and am willing to accept being a little forgetful in lieu of being a lot depressed!

i have been dealing with medical issues for several years and it was destroying my marriage and the financial crunch was becoming a problem in itself. i've had bad spots before but recently found myself sobbing uncontrolably or pitching major temper tantrums for no aparrent reason. lots of suicidal thoughts. i've been on celexa for a month now and have felt tons better. i still get weepy for no reason but can push it off and i'm not as irritable. the only side effects i've had are the yawn attacks-sometimes feel like my jaw is going to pop, yet i don't feel sleepy. i do have a hard time getting up in the a.m. and sleep like a rock. i can't comment on the sexual side effects my libido's been nil for a while now. i have been taking ginko for a year now and i haven't experienced any forgetfulness with the celexa either-not sure if it's the ginko or not.good luck to everyone-i'd appreciate a pen pal from anyone out there, no one in my family has ever had this type of problem so no one really understands that no matter how positive you try to be (the most common lecture) that it feels like someone else is driving the emotions and you're just there for the ride.

The love of my life has had a history of problems with his temper and has been prescribed anti-depressants in the past. I've been doing research on these things and am very wary about him even starting again considering the side effects and withdrawl symptoms. He took Prozac and Wellbutrin, which did nothing, and Zoloft, which had too many side effects for him to handle.

I'm now looking into Effexor and Celexa (I researched Paxil and said NO WAY!). I was wondering if you could all give me feedback on your experiences. I'm especially concerned with sexual dysfunction (hey, we can't help that we like sex!), forgetfulness (he has enough problems with his memory), and headaches.

Please let me know how you feel about this med in comparison to any others you have tried. I don't want him to take any at all, but he feels it is necessary, so all I can do is love him and support him. Please help!

I just started Celexa 2 days ago (20mg). Have been on Wellbutrin for about 6 weeks. Prior to that was on Zoloft for 3 months. Prior to that, Paxil for 3 months. Didn't like the weight gain, lethargy and sexuallly side effects of Paxil. Didn't like sexual side effects of Zoloft. Thus the change to Wellbutrin. Wellbutrim has made me very anxious. Celexa helped alleviate the anxiety beginning on day 1. Still taking 125mg of Wellbutrin.

My original reason for going on ADs was because of poor concentration and memory loss. Was depressed as well, but could handle it.
The concentration and memory loss aspects, however, effect my job. So I began the eternal search for the "perfect" AD.

After reading several of these postings, I am concerned about the concentration/memory thing. The reason I got on this rollercoaster! Does it improve over time? Would decreasing to 10 mg. help? Is it ever perscribed for improving concentration? Even Wellbutrin has not totally brought back my mental faculties. The best I felt was when I was weaning off of Zoloft and taking Wellbutrin simultaneoulsy. But because of the sexually side effect of Zoloft, I asked to try a different SSRI. Enter Celexa!

So far I have had no sexually side effects (Thank God!}, but may be too soon to tell. Or, maybe I just can't remember...

Any thoughts?

However, some women and men find it helpful when wanting to lose weight. If you don't want to lose weight just eat light meals a couple times a day. Maybe this will help.
Take Care.

--------------------
Howdy everyone. I've just started taking Celexa 20 mg a day. I was taking Paxil but asked my physician about something that would not impact my sexuality as much. I'm hoping that I don't feel any side effects from it. So far it's only caused me to have a dry mouth. But then, I've only taken it for two days and am working on one more day. I'll post results as I notice them.
