You're a good friend Pat. As proof of the unconscious, while I was moving on with my life, having thought I had properly grieved, my mind said not so fast. These illnesses either expose the weaknesses of a relationship or prove their strength. My wife obviously cares a great deal about me as a manic can be a very unpleasant person.
Once out of the bin I spent a week building a cedar rabbit fence around my garden. Landscaping is indeed therapeutic. And you know that Fayeroe would have loved thrashing through your flowers!
