For you, it might not be ideal to take psychiatric medications. However, for a great many people it is. Changing the functioning of the body is exactly what is needed sometimes. This often involves employing things that do not occur naturally in body. This is the foundation of allopathic medicine. Using herbs and "supplements" is a form of allopathic manipulation.

Sometimes, the word "never" is applicable. I don't think that this is one of those times - at least, not at this juncture. Hopefully, this will change. It would be cool if a transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) would effectively treat mental illness. It exists right now, but I don't think there are enough data yet to indicate its use. I would not discount repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), but the numbers are not impressive with the original device. Perhaps deep dTMS would be better.

Anyway, drug therapy can work miracles in the treatment of mental illness. Not always, but not never.
