This tide of grief I hide inside of me

Posted by Hiddenhurt on November 14, 2016, at 12:26:36

This tide of grief I hide inside of me,
Because too-sad people in society
Are like wilting flowers in a bouquet:
They spoil appearances, and are wished away.

I try to be upright and dutiful,
But it hurts me that one is deemed unbeautiful
When sick and in pain. If the evening sky
Can be both dark and lovely, why not I?

For pain grows fast in darkness, and when apart
Fear metastasizes. (Why must the heart
Be such a skittish mouse?) So close to home
And yet so misunderstood, and so alone.
