my mother loved my stepfather but she felt that he was still in love with his first wife. my mother divorced him about 20 years prior to this. he had a girlfriend that he married later on.
my mother had been dx with cancer. she still had strength but it was fading. i called my stepfather and said i need a favor and would he call her because she was getting worse.
my two brothers and my favorite aunt were all in the living room when the phone rings and it's herschel my stepfather.
my mother was very shocked but obviously thrilled they talked for a while and when they hung up she was flustered but smiling and laughing as much as i had seen her in a long long time.
she wondered how he knew to call and i put on my poker face.
i had no idea how that would go down but i saw an opportunity. i don't know if that was the best thing i had ever done but i knew it was a good thing.
i wonder why i have such a hard time with happiness for me but i do.
if it's not too late maybe someone will see i need a bridge. but i did this for two people i loved not for payback. sometimes all we can do is all we can do. i was proud of myself that day and i'll never forget that i built a bridge that even heaven couldn't pull off.this bridge is nothing close to the other. i was at a halloween party at a friends house. a couple came in and i could tell the guy was a bit insecure. i knew that because i was too. this girl would make any guy insecure because from the minute they walked in i had the feeling that she really liked me. despite her attempts to get my attention i never looked at her. when they were leaving the guy turned around with small grin and nodded his head. hey, it's the best i could do. i'm not a saint but that night with that guy i was.
it probably was not a long term relationship.
