Sounds like a "crazy-making" appointment!
If you had a crap old-man & crap childhood, I'd say psychotherapy would be good, myself. You could see what people on the Psychology board think.
I am not sure - is it depression you're diagnosed with? (if you feel like saying). If it is, I do NOT believe that you would need to be on meds forever. I was on Celexa for - I don't know - 5 years or something. I've been off them for about 4 years or so now. Sure I get depressed in the winter months (SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder), & must admit that the winter before this past one, I was ALMOST considering going back on meds. But they screwed up my memory so badly that I was afraid to. So I looked into alternative treatments, including a light lamp, 5HTP & St. John's Wort as well as homeopathic medicine. Sorry for going on & on.
Anyway, sounds like you're doing C.B.T? If so, what do you think? I'm finding it is helping me.
I'm glad the doc left the door open for you, so to speak.
