So I show up at his office, and he starts by saying: "So why did you want to see me?" He didn't even bother to read my work! And then he has the cheek to tell me I'm "idling" and I have to work harder!

Jamal,

You need to sit down with him and look him straight in the eyes and tactfully tell him, for example; "I know that you are a very busy and your position demands a great deal of your time for students concerns outside of class etc.. but, I take my studies seriously, and value your input and any constructive critisism to help me become a better student and grasp the topic, ect.. You are expressing to him that you want your feeling validated, and by doing this, he will take you seriously and respect you and where you are coming from. I hope this helps.
