Lack of a passion

Posted by DannaB on January 20, 2007, at 14:16:18

Besides for all of my other problems I'd say the major reason I am dissatisfied with life is that I'm lacking something I’m passionate about.

The truth is that I just don't have that many interests or hobbies. The lack of interests is probably related to depression but the situation is worsened by a lack of money to pursue the types of things that I would normally like to do. Like it or not, just about anything and everything costs money and I don't have much to spare.

Anyway, when I think back to the times when I was happiest, it was because I was utterly engrossed in and enthralled with some sort of hobby or activity. I miss having something that I look forward to doing. Right now, whenever I have free time I’m usually flat-out bored. I am only able to occupy my mind so much with my usual boring “hobbies” like going to a café or reading trashy magazines. The other things I used to enjoy are less interesting to me now.

How can I find something new to immerse myself in? Sometimes I wish I would have a career that would take all of my time and energy so I wouldn't feel so damn bored all of the time. I’m not writing this to complain, but really to see if anyone can relate or has suggestions for developing new interests, as this has always been a struggle of mine.
