So your husband said "no" to the friend? Maybe it's your husband that will have the harder time letting go of your son.

Adolescence is a mixed blessing. Mostly for my daughter is has brought about much happiness. Her therapist has said to me many times, "XXX has taken to middle school like a duck to water. And I think the older she gets the happier she will be." Some kids who have difficult earier years, thrieve in a more academic "older" environment.

Your son has always been wise beyond his years. His peers may look up to him more and more.

Funny, today my daughter was invited to spend the day with two friends she met at a summer camp. I said "yes" right away, and my husband looked concerned. I reasoned with him, "Did you want to watch football all day? If so, let her go and have fun." And she did.
