I got my hair cut a couple of weeks back from long to middle length too!

I hadn't got it cut in around 4 years (since just after my accident, I think). Part of... Wanting to grow it. Get a new look or something. I still want to grow it, but the split ends had split ends had split ends. Now there is not a split end in sight but I had to lose a lot of length to get it to be this way. All stocked up on protein conditioning treatments and co. I'm going to grow it but regular trims every 7 weeks. I swear.

I'm not very happy with it at this length. My hair is fairly fine but I have a LOT of it. It also is fairly wavy / unruly. The length it is now it tries to go curly at the ends. I know I could blow dry it straight (well, I could if I wasn't so damned unco-ordinated) or get some ceramic straighteners and straighten it but
1) I can't be bothered.
2) I want to look after it and despite what people say applying heat just can't be good for it.

So... It will get there. If I pull it straight it JUST touches my shoulders. With the wavy thing... It isn't even close :-(

How much length did you lose?

I love concave bobs, but with the wavy hair they aren't the cut for me. I love short hair too but I don't have the face shape for it. Unfortunately... I had to learn that one the hard way. That was a hard hard lesson for me to learn and it took me YEARS to recover :-(

Long hair for me... Eventually. But that being said yeah I get sick of leaving hair everywhere. Though... It is a lot better since getting the split ends off.

I typically hate going to the hairdressers too. The last one I went to was a real bitch. She asked me if I used conditioner. I didn't get insulted... But I was pissed 'cause she was sniggering at how I just wanted a wet cut instead of a shampoo and all that crap (like I don't have better things to do with my time and money) and she sniggered when she saw how split my hair was and she sniggered when I said I wanted the split ends off and cut straight across because I wanted to grow it. Sure it probably would look better styled because of the wavy thing but you know what? IMHO most hairdressers have TRUELY APPALLING taste when it comes to haircuts and I'd rather have it straight across and grow it without having to worry about layers getting split as I'm trying to grow it out again later. No offense to anyone or anything but I don't much like the layered long looks. Still... She was a bitch to everyone in the salon, I noticed. And... I stood up for myself. I took a deep breath... And said (in a kinda bitchy tone which seemed appropriate) 'I don't want you to style it because I've had some truely appalling styles in my time'. And I pre-empted her next response with 'And it isn't about my going to cheap places either, in fact I've found that expensive places tend to insist on truely atrocious styles whereas at least your local barber has sharp sissors and can cut straight across as I request him to do'. She actually seemed to... Respect me after that. Said that my hair was hard to cut because there was so much of it. That styling it... Would be hard work... That I should probably go to a hairdresser for a while and let them 'get to know my hair' before letting them style it because there isn't any point fighting the waves... And if you try and cut against them then you can end up with some cuts that look pretty bad especially if you don't want to wreck it with blowdrying. So... I think we have an understanding.

But... Why is she such a bitch? And why did I need to stand up for myself to get her to respect me? I mean I get that I did and I passed the test but why do people have to be that way?

Sigh.

Sorry for the rant... But I have a bit of a phobia of hairdressers...
