Deneb* you GO girl!
I'm glad you've been doing some travelling and hanging out with friends this summer. Socializing is like anything else really- improves with practice!

And I have the WORST experiences with hairdressers. I'm usually very reluctant to get my hair cut. I was going to an Asian woman for a while. She gave a great, precise haircut, and I don't really speak much of her language, and vice versa, so there was no small talk, I just kind of showed her what I wanted, and then read a magazine or daydreamed while she did her job.

Alas, I moved. no more Asian lady. I went to a training salon. The woman who cut my hair was SO dimwitted. I couldn't talk about ANYTHING with her. I think the conversation went like this "So, are Fridays really busy around here?" "Um, well, yeah, but I like it, because then I can go out with the girls from my training course and party" "Oh, that's cool! ...we talked about bars/clubs/restaurants, and I ascertained that she likes places where pretty girls get in for free, and that she liked to wiggle her booty, in front of people of quantity, not quality... next she asked me what I was reading "Um, it's a book on memory" "Oh cool, I like to read" "Oh, I do too, but I haven't had much time to read "fun" stuff lately, only stuff for school." "Oh, you are in school?" "yes" "Wow, I'm so impressed. So, like what school are you in? [xxxcollege] "Oh, wow, like, I've heard of that one." [PEOPLE. the letters xxx stand for the city where she lives and works (and parties) for that matter!. Seriously.]

And at the end, a colleague came over, and she talked about me "Um, I think this side is higher than this side" yes, they agreed, the cut wasn't that great. but did she try to fix it? NO. She asked me if I noticed. um, lady, it's in the freakin' BACK of my head. YOUR JOB is to notice!! Just get me out of here, I'll find someone with a license.

My most recent hair-cut, the razor-cut bob (Dr. Bob, I intend you no injury!!) was VERY satisfying. The guy who cut it seemed inspired, and even admitted to me that it was so fun to talk to someone who wasn't obsessed by hair. We talked about stress, and modern life, and whaddyaknow? He told me all about his manic tripping on Wellbutrin. That was really funny! I didn't tell him about my meds, but we had a really fun conversation talking about what works and what doesnt. It was a jolly good time. I'll be going back pretty soon, I guess.

Deneb*, bravo for trying something new! Shorter hair is fun and makes you feel happier :)
