Hi Tabitha,

It's good to see you. Oh, yes, I've also seen "MANHATTAN." When I first saw MANHATTAN, I liked it better than ANNIE HALL, but now, years later, I have to say that I like them both equally, but for different reasons.

How about the split-screen scenes in ANNIE HALL in which Woody Allen is talking to his psychiatrist on one side of the screen while Diane Keaton is talking with her psychiatrist on the other side of the screen:

Woody/Alvy's shrink: "How many times a week do you have intercourse?"

Woody/Alvy: "Oh, hardly ever. Only two or three times a week."

Keaton/Annie's shrink: "How many times a week do you have intercourse?"

Keaton/Annie: "All the time! Two or three times a week."

I do remember the scenes you mentioned, especially the two contrasting scenes with the lobster. They were terrific but, as you said, there is a sadness to them and to the whole movie. The first time I saw ANNIE HALL, my high school sweetheart and I were in the process of breaking up, so whenever I watch the whole movie now, I think back to that time. "Bittersweet" is the word often used by critics to describe this film, and I think that is exactly right.
