I think that is one of the things I love about music - the range of emotions that it evokes, and the memories that go with those emotions that wash over you - some happy, some sad. But, you are right that sometimes it is hard to know what to do with the emotions, or how to handle them, when they hit and catch you by surprise when you least expect :-( It will get better, and, with time, you, hopefully, won't be so overwhelmed by the emotions.
