> I am searching for some answers. My voices and visions began 20 years ago with a flash of light. At first the angels of God was my teachers and they tought me about the word of the Lord, then Satan's demons came in and began torturering me. I have found no one in 20 years that are going through things like me. The Dr's. say that I am schizophrenic because I hear and see what I hear and see, but their test are in conclusive. No medication has ever worked over the last 20 years. Although my family is understanding and supportive of me, they can not understand because the can't see and hear it. The preachers treat me like a mental case, and I can't get any answers. It's just that things that the angel's had told me in the past I have seen come true over the years. I am not a prophet, don't think I am God, and don't even pretend to be. I am just a guy looking for some answers. I was told as you get closer to the age of 50 the voices and visions lighten up for most, I am 6 months short of 50 and it's speding up getting worse. So if there is anyone out there going through this and you have some answers please help me out.

Hi,

Well I don't have a lot of experience with what you are going through, I have a bit of knowledge about treatment. Usually, 'typical' older antipsychotics where precribed for the positive symtoms you mentioned, like hallucinations and voices. What seems to happen is over time, your body may become 'used' to the meds, and they may not be as effective. But, I know of a couple of people who use both 'typical' older meds (like Largactil) at lower doses, with a bit higher doses of the newer, 'atypical' antipsychotics (Zyprexa, Risperdone, Seroquel). You also really might benefit from some group therapy, even though it sounds useless, but you won't feel so alone, and may find out that there is something triggering your symptoms.

Honestly, I believe your symptoms and illness have become one of the 'easiest' to treat (I mean that with respect.) You just need to find a good doctor to treat you with some blend of diverse meds. Plus, social support is really important...as it will keep the 'negative' symptoms like depression and anxiety down. Best of luck...please keep us posted as to how you are doing.

Best,
Jay
