artistic expressive book--Awesome!

Posted by B2Chica on November 24, 2004, at 12:05:47

some shameless promotion of a book.
"Beneath The Surface: Creative expressions of augmented communicators"

-i recently read and purchased this book. for all those artistic junkies out there (namely me) this was Incredible. it includes pictures of paintings, drawings, some poetry, short essays' etc. of people with disabilities using augmented communication. i wish i could share some without getting sued. These are people with physical disabilities but their insights and expressions MANY of them i related to from this Mental/emotional illness side of things.
About wanting to be better...'cured', to accepting who you are inside and loving it, to not giving up hopes and dreams despite Dx, to frustrations, anger at others/self , etc.
one poem i LOVE is called 'mutation is evolution' another is called 'is there a life after Speech?' i especially like this one cuz the author describes feelings about not being able to speak.

I relate, though i have the physical ability to speak, i many times do not have the ability to get it out (like for T), to express only on the inside...a loneliness...
incredible.

and maybe i'm just really moved right now, this is a really small company and they produce incredible stuff, but this is the first time it's grabbed me so strongly and personally. i guess cuz of the art/expressionism aspect.
