Just to be very sure about the answer, a child who is actively vomiting should not be given anything other than clear fluids. After vomiting has subsided, or, to treat loose stools, the BRAT diet is recommended. That said, there are other members of the bland foods list. BRAT is just a mnemonic, to help your remember some acceptable foods. Bananas do not irritate the stomach. They are also high in postassium, helping to restore lost electrolytes from vomiting or diarrhea.

If you go to google, and just type in bananas rice applesauce toast BRAT in the search window, you'll get page after page of confirmatory evidence for this list. One example:
