Sadness is part of life- we all have losses and disappointments to cope with. But that doesnt mean it has to be around all the time.

If its a reaction to some situation you cant change (like a bereavement),then counselling/therapy, informal support, and time can be useful. They can all make the inevitable journey thru grief something that you work thru and eventually not feel quite as sad.

If its due to depression/anxiety about something you can change, its down to doing whatever you need to pluck up the courage to tackle that. Again, support will help a lot.

Finally, if the actual depression/anxiety is a major factor in itself (and maybe stopping you changing the things that you can), then medication/therapy/self help in whatever combination you need are very important.

Many people do get better from depression, and find there are short and then longer periods when life doesnt seem sad, but just ordinary. Then occasionally things that are actually pleasant and fun.

Dont worry that you will always be sad; its very unlikely that you will be, and why waste the effort on worrying when you dont need to?

That may all sound rather bracing, but its from someone who very much understands how you feel. Its the kind of thing that helped me to be aware of when I was down, and it turned out to be true.

Lots of luck and take care

Fi
