I've been to AA, NA, and other types of support groups that are more general. I don't know if you are interested in my experiences since I have not attended a support group for ADHD but I can tell you a bit about the format of support groups.
The environment is usually low key, and usually you sit in a circle or around a table. There should be a mediator (more than one is best) in the group. Sometimes there might be a theme and each individual can share thoughts on that theme. Each person is encouraged to share their thoughts while respecting other people's right to speak without being interrupted. If you want to comment sometimes making eye contact with the mediator and raising your hand is a good way to make your wish to speak known. Other times there is simply a "round" taken with each person commenting on how things have been going. Often times one person may be focused on quite a bit if they are struggling a lot or particularly in need of support. If it is the first meeting, you might be encouraged to share your first name and why you have decided to come.
Groups can be very emotional and there can be conflicts, but I've found that they can be very helpful if you find a group of people you are comfortable and feel safe with. Did I manage to answer any of your questions? Best of luck to you and I applaud you on your bravery to seeking out help!
