HA!

So cute - love the nicknames.

Yeah, I usually call my girls various things other than their 'official' names: monkey dogs, pookie, punkin', pud n' pen, goosie girls, sweet baboos, baby dogs, and so on and so forth...

My mom calls Lucy - Lucy Mae, Lucy Goosie, Moose, Moosie, Lucy Mae Hambone, Lucy Mae Hammie, Mouly wan (don't ask - I'm not sure myself!!!)...

Doogie is Doog, Doogie Miner, Doogie Minerer, Sugey (shu-gee) Miner, Sug (shug), Minkie Miner, Ol' man Doog (as he's getting quite old), and so on...

Very very strange...I wonder sometimes if the poor things even know their names?

The story of my babies: I got Puddin' shortly after moving into my own apartment for the first time, about a year after I graduated college (spring 99). She was 3 months old - I was living in a garage apartment and had never asked my landlord about the prospect of pets - I went to Petsmart one day and they had the adoption group there and I saw her, called the landlord from the payphone outside the store!, and asked if I could have a puppy - he said, "Go ahead..." so I adopted her. She was so meek and submissive and sweet as could be. I never had a minute's trouble with her...

About three months later, I was looking for a companion for her and saw my lil' Penny at another Petsmart adopt-a-thon - I asked the woman about her, and she said they didn't know her history, they had only had her a week, she had just been spayed. They estimated she was about 1 1/2 years old, and she didn't like the other dogs. Some woman picked her up and then sat her on the floor in front of her and Pen just shook. She was so thin and her coat was dull and she looked pitiful. That woman said, "She's quite timid - would probably be a lot of work!" and left. I went in, drawn in by her size (she's now 13 lbs.), curly tail and sad eyes :-( and held her on her back like a baby, cradled in my arms. She licked my chin, and I had to have her! I went home, got my Pud and took her back to the store, where I introduced her to Pen, and Pen never growled once. Today they are the best of friends - but Penny still doesn't like other dogs!

Anyway, they have so saved my life on more than one occasion. I can't tell you how many times I have gone home feeling completely out of control, freaking out, upset, etc., and they were there with all the love in the world for me, completely unconditional, and kept me sane - brought me back to reality. I don't know what I would do without my baby dogs...

I really need to go to bed now!!! It's 15 til' one a.m. my time, and I have to work tomorrow!!!

argh...

Oh - I posted more pics of dogs and little me...
