Sales at stores

Here's something that bothers me:

There have been a few times when I bought something (usually at the grocery store) because I thought it was on sale. It said it was on sale on the shelf. But then it rang up and wasn't on sale. Usually I just let it go because I just don't feel like dealing with the hassle, also I go through the self-checkouts a lot if I can.

Anyways - what I find out later or if I go back to check the price, is that the sale has ended. In tiny little writing at the bottom of the UPC on the shelf, it says "effective through 8/5/03" or something. And they just haven't bothered to change their signs yet, so everyone thinks that they are getting a sale price when they aren't! Now I always check that just to be sure.
